    bullet weight for a .17hmr

hi, recently bought a savage .17hmr with a 1:9" twist ratio and a 21" barrel. i want to get the most out of it and don't know if i should buy 17gr or 20gr ammo. i know the difference is the bullet weight but i don't know how they affect the accuracy. any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I've gotten the best results with 20gr bullets out of my Savage, and I've read about other Savage 17HMRs that work better with 20gr also.

17gn is the Key, but they also make a 16gn Lead Free you can try about $1-2 more for a box of 50, but my Marlin 17VS enjoyed the CCI 17gn HP much more accurate / consistent than the FMJ's or ballistic tips, but try them all, every gun is unique

One of my rifles likes 20gn, the other one 17gn. Just buy a few boxes of each and shoot some groups to see what brand and bullet your rifle prefers.
