Help with Ruger Target Model 22/45 Mark III!

So I picked up my awesome new toy today and decided to take it apart to lube it up a bit. Boy was that a mistake! After getting a mallet to smack the receiver loose from the grip, I found I could not get it seated fully. I can get it to slide flush with the grip, but not hang over a bit like the manual says. This wouldn't be a problem except there is a tiny bit of overlap in the holes, so I cannot replace the mainspring housing!

I have tried putting the barrel on a mat and smacking it like crazy with my mallet but no go...any ideas? I really want to go shoot this thing tomorrow!

    Thanks!

Watch the Ruger disassembly/reassembly videos and follow ALL directions. New MKIIIs are known for being a little tight when new, they do loosen up over time.

Yeah I have it disassembled and followed the directions to the tee. It is telling me I "may need to tap lightly with a mallet"...well, I am putting all 215 lbs of my body weight into the swings and I have nothing...

Here's another good video of disassembly & assembly that might be some help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkPN87hRgbE

        Good luck GearHead.

          Good luck GearHead.

Yeah I saw that one earlier and it really helped me take it apart...I guess I will just try smacking it for a few more hours and see wtf happens.

It sounds like you followed the directions. I've heard of tight MKIIIs but it shouldn't take that much force. Good luck.
