    10/22 Scope Adjustments?

Ive got a ruger 10/22 with a Bushnell 3-9x40 scope on it. Ive only got the scope recently but it seems as though every time i go to the range I have to re-zero the scope at the same range because its off by quite a bit. Any ideas why?

Check the scope mounts and base. Id take the scope off, retighten the base, put the scope back on, and tighten the rings. You may need to get better rings and mount. It could also be the scope.

Once you have ruled out any looseness in the mounts. Put the rifle on a steady rest pointed down range at a 24 by 30 inch target, move the rifle until you center the crosshairs on the paper target. Now loosen the scope enough to rotate it as far as it will go each direction. Note the direction and line the crosshairs follow on the target. Now reset the scope tighten up and go shoot until the aim seems to move then do the same scope move again. Does it go in the same line using the same target background and rest, it should be close. If not then the scope moved if it is the same then the mounts moved. The rotating of the scope and watching the crosshairs move will tell you where the hairs are in relation to the tube anything moves inside the tube it will be seen as more or less movement of the crosshairs against the target when rotated. If you scope and rifle were perfectly aligned there would be little or no movement.

I bought my 10/22 used with no scope mount and paid 10 bucks at a gun show for a used looking one. The scope mount is attatched to the bottom of the scope.
