Stevens model 73Y extractor

After being broken for 20 years, I now have a replacement extractor for my wife's old youth .22 which we would like to pass on to our daughter. From the shape of it, it is pretty easy to see that it just clips on to the bolt. The fact that I'm posting here says it's not as simple as it looks. The extractor failed to extract the first fired round from the chamber. It just would not grab. If anyone has a Savage/Stevens model 63, 73, or 73Y or knows how the extractor gets attached, I would really appreciate some instruction on getting this on the bolt in the correct position.

If nothing else, dad was at least smart enough to also bring the .22 pump, so the first shot at the range was not also the last. She still had a great day and is looking forward to using "her" new rifle.

I read your post earlier today and looked through some books I have. A lot of them don't list that model, some do and show it as a Savage (same company) - also the same thing under a lot of store brands. I also Googled "Savage Model 73Y" and see quite a bit of information, think it was like 400+ hits, but probably a lot of dead ends. My Numrich Gun Parts catalog shows a breakdown, but the picture is so small I can't see much other than what you describe as far as attachment. Maybe you can find something with a refined search such as adding "extractor" to a Google search with your model. I didn't try using the Stevens brand, but did see it listed as being produced roughly between the mid 60's to the 80's. Good luck with it!
