    22lr Bolt Action

why do bolt action 22 rifles cost more than the semi autos?

i have a savage 64 now, but i would love to get a bolt action 22, but i don't understand why they cost so much more.

i was looking at the savage mark II series.

BTW, when did the bar get set so low?

there's more machining and fitting that goes into them...and there is less demand.

a .22lr bolt action really appeals to the serious shooter who understands the value of each shot placed on the target. they also understand that you will put many time the number of rounds through a .22lr than through a CF rifle, so it only makes sense to spend more for quality.

Anschutz M-54 based rifles appeal to some upper income folks who like the best there is...but i've found that folks who shoot to put food on the table really like their entry level M-164 sporters. one shot, one kill

Well, I am sure someone can make and sell a bolt action .22LR that is just as accurate and reliable as a Ruger 10/22 for a little less money.

If someone could make one for $180 or less new, I'd really be interested in one.

they do, but it's more accurate and reliable...only comes with a 5 round detachable mag... the Romanian M69. i paid about $60 for mine from Big 5, but i've heard they are around $150 now

Go Go Romanian M69! I got one and man that little bastard is a tack driver to the extreme. Wish the mags weren't so expensive though, I've wanted more but they're like 30 a pop T_T

You can use Savage mags in an M69?!?!??! Link to the model number of the Savage rifle so I know what mags to buy please! This whole time I've been looking for actual M69 mags(real or imports) which is why I was so depressed at the prices.

                oops, wasn't clear enough

the Savage mags are interchangeable with the Anschutz mags...they have a long common history. so yup, they Savage mags work in my $1400+ M54 action

There ya go my friend! Trust me, these little buggers are nice! They have a old school look to them with old school manufacturing(nothing but wood and metal baby, not a single piece of plastic on it). You'll enjoy the rifle.

EDIT: Had to delete like 4 of the links because they wouldn't sell to CA........buttholes. Also, the seller in the first link has their own website and is selling the Romanian Trainer for $140 and they have it on Gunbroker with a starting bid of $120. Probably would be best if ya just bought it off of their website instead of getting overbid and having to pay more:

?...I paid $250 for my Ruger 10/22 semi auto, and only $159 for my marlin 981t bolt action.

I only paid $150 ea for these, but they are now up to about $200. Very well built and very accurate.

It looks like Mossberg is the only company offering a bolt gun for under $200

I prefer my CZ452 a medium priced .22 with good reputation for accuracy over my Ruger 10/22's

Get a CZ 22 bolt -- accurate and affordable.
Check out their cool, European looking 452 Special Military Training rifle -- MSRP is $400 but they're all over the internet for $320-350 -- that cheap for a rifle of this quality and has great iron sights and takes 5 and 10 round magazines.
