Any rimfire 3 gun type matches?

Maybe this should go into the competition section, sorry if it does please move it if I am wrong. I was reading into 3 gun or technically 2 gun matches at Chabot. I was thinking that it would be fun to have a rimfire variant of those matches. The competition would use a regular handgun or a rimfire handgun and use a .22lr rifle instead of centerfire rifles. I think it would be fun, also it would give an opportunity for the owners of the tacticool rimfire rifles to come out and use them in competition, but of course regular semi-auto .22lr would still be able to come out and play. In my mind it seems like a very cheap and fun way to get competitive in .22lr without being in static shooting positions. Hmmm maybe I should just ask the nice people at Chabot if they would be interested.

O yeah are there any rimfire competitions for adults in the Bay Area, besides the smallbore at Chabot? I got my .22lr kit for my Glock and I have been hooked on rimfire since. So now I am looking to shoot my rimfire rifle a lot more.

heya dubels...that sounds like a pretty good idea.

i shoot the pistol/carbine matches at Chabot, and man...it's an expensive hobby since i don't know how to reload. however, i do own rimfires as well and shooting rimfires instead of centerfire would be fun.

i think my .22 1911 pistol conversion would work well in competition, but i think i would get my butt kicked when it comes to rifles, cuz i would be shooting with a bolt action .22 rifle...heh heh.

    HOWEVER...

according to the rules, chabot has allowed people to use .22 rifles and pistols for the centerfire carbine and pistol matches, so just jump right in with us. And personally, i have seen fellow competitors shoot converted .22 LR AR-15s alongside the centerfire folks. of course, we gave him a hard time for shooting .22s, but it was in good fun.

but as of now, i haven't heard of any tactical 3-gun/uspsa/idpa style matches dedicated to ONLY rimfires at Chabot.

I'd be into that, I've been looking for justification for my GSG-5 and 1911 conversion, and I think this is it.

I'm in the process of talking to the range owner about 3-action gun competiion at our range. 3 action as in pistol, semi-auto and bolt action. All rimfire. I hope I can strike a deal so I can start making fliers to advertise it. Just don't know how many folks like that idea.

Good Idea! Most other states have this.
I have to speak with Jojo Vidanes to see if we can do this at our club.

Hmm tempting. Thanks for the responses, I am going to try and get in contact with Chabot about this. But if not I will travel to El Dorado for some rimfire fun. I think it is a great way in this economy to have some fun. I have a AA kit for my glock so I wouldn't mind doing .22 pistols. It also seems like a good cheap way to train and move up to the center fire 2 gun matches. I think we can make it a feeder series into the centerfire matches. Problem is getting the logistics together.

How does Chabot deal with the poppers or other steel when someone uses a 22?

Interested to see if rimfire matches appear at Chabot, if so I'll be there.

                      I'd love to see a .410 used

They make bird shot 22 rounds...

I would be all over a 2 gun .22 comp. Good excuse to bring the 10/22 and the mk2 out to play (not to mention an great excuse to buy some toys for em). If it's a 3 gun that's a great excuse to get an shotgun.

.410 probably won't knock over a lot of the steel targets. I've seen steel need to be hit with a heavy load or having to hit it twice to get it to fall with 12 ga. You could be there all day shooting with a 410 and it not working on the farther heavy stuff.

The Ruger Rimfire Challenge matches are a lot of fun. They are just rifle and pistol but their are a few divisions for almost any rimfire guns.

Also West End Gun Club allows 22LR rifle and pistol with a 12Ga for their 3 gun shoots:

Thanks for the link IDP$U. I would love to compete in the Ruger Rimfire Challenge. But I also think to have some sort of California league would be fun, or just a local league. One in the bay area could just be held at the same ranges that hold regular 3 gun matches. I am going to look through the rule book on targets and course of fire but I really don't see much modification that needs to be done to make a traditional centerfire course for rimfire.

After sleeping on this, I think that it is very possible to at least get some sort of sponsorship for these matches. These matches will be an effective way to market the tacticool rimfire guns. It would also be great for the sport since these guns are also being sold at Big 5, it will get people more interested in sport shooting instead of just plinking. The start up cost would be relatively small compared to a full centerfire rig, and rimfire rifles can shoot all day with detachable mags w/o all the AW bs. Also instead of a shotgun aspect there can just be a long range rimfire section that competitors can use their taticool rifles or regular semi-autos, which would still basically keep it as a 2gun match but it would cut down on the cost of getting a third gun. It would also be an easy with for younger shooters to get involved in defensive shooting matches earlier without the high cost. Time to start writing proposals and hope that we can get a league or at least a match a month just for rimfire.
