10/22 trigger stuck when changing stocks

Ii was changing out my wifes stock on her 10/22 and when i put the new stock on, i can cock it, but not fire it.

I didint touch the trigger assembly when i was changing out the stock, however i cant depress the trigger, if i cock it and dont release i can pull the trigger, second i let go of the cocking handle, the trigger locks up.

2nd thing i noticed, the safety almost seems to want to slide out an extra 1/8 of an inch

    any ideas?

Thats weird, try switching the safety on and off few times.. If nothing changes just disassemble and reassemble.. Something could of been wrong and you just noticed while changing stocks.

10/22s are VERY easy to take apart. Pop the two pins that hold the trigger group out and make sure that it all works. Go here for instructions.

That will at least point you in the right direction.

Just put it back in the oem stock and see if that fixes it. If it does take it out of the oem stock and see what is different between the two stocks.

Then at that point modify or fix the aftermarket stock as needed.

It is a simple swap so I am guessing something is wrong with the new stock.

you have to have the safety kind of "half way" between on and off to get it out of some stocks.

          try that

When the safety is in the halfway / middle position to allow the barreled action to be removed from the stock, sometimes the safety plunger gets twisted or rotated out of position. In this case, it will lock up the action.
You will likely have to remove the trigger group and partially disassemble it to get everything back in place correctly.
If you need help, let me know.
            Been there, done that.

sounds like ojiasan might have it, the weird thing about the safety now, is that in the fireable position, you can actually keep pushing it so thats is even farther out, almost like a retaining pin. i guess ill take it apart tonight.,

yea, got it partially disassembled and somehow the safety got twisted upside down, i twisted it back and it works now.

I was going to say for sure the (i think bolt release) was moved in the trigger housing when cleaning. Looks like you got it.
