    10/22 Barrel Twist

Just wondering what everybody's thoughts are on the best twist rate for a 16-1/2" 10/22 barrel. I shoot 33-40gr. bullets and have a 1:16" twist. Figured this would make for some good discussion so....what barrel twist and why???

I think that most of the barrels are all 1:16. I don't know any other twist rates that are being used with the 22lr.

        I don't think I've seen a truly .22lr barrel that WASNT 1:16

Tactical solutions makes a 1/9 for heavy ammo but have only seen one person ever actually buy and use it.. 1:16 is the most common and the best

They also go with a slower 1:18 twist for use with the hyper velocity ammo....it works really well with the aguila super maximum ammunition.

On this particular barrel, they cut the chamber slightly longer to accommodate the longer cases found in the hyper velocity type ammo...and slow the twist down as well.

I just wanted a build I could try the hyper ammo in , I couldnt do it in my match chambered 10/22's.

Ya they do make a few different chamber's, Sporter, Bentz, and Match but they are all 1:18 twist except for the tactical solutions I mentioned..

There are some 1:9 twist 22 rimfire barrels specifically for shooting the 60gr aguila SSS ammo.

I would rock one of those if I lived in a suppressor-friendly state

I looooooooooooove shooting .22lr suppressed. I've heard that the 60gr Aguila has issues with baffle strikes though

                      Not in a 1:9 barrel.

Has anyone ever shot standard lr ammo (or hi velocity for that matter) in a 1:9" twist barrel? Especially at 50-100 or more yards?

I asked the same question at rimfirecentral, and so far most haven't actually done it, and those that have haven't had any loss of accuracy to 50 yards.

I know the purpose for the twist rate with the longer SSS bullet, I know the M4 (? - maybe some other higpower rifle 22lr) conversion isnt the most accurate, but that could be due to the adapter, not the twist.

So anyone actually shot it in the higher twist rate barrel?

                        Thanks
