So the subsonic round will not break the speed of sound and therefore you won't have the same "crack"?l Would that also make it ideal for a home defense round? If I had to discharge indoors, I assume there would be less hearing damage?

Why would you bet you life on a 22lr round just to save your hearing
If you want to be a victim with good hearing them by all means use the 22lr as your HD ammo.. There is a good reason why there is so much debate about which to use for HD, 9mm, 40, 45, shotgun or rifle and almost never dose anyone come to the talks with 22r... Why do you think that is.....
