New Ruger 22/45 with Replaceable Grips

I haven't seen this new Ruger mentioned on here yet:

    More info available at: http://www.ruger.com/products/2245Re...els/index.html

Does anyone have any idea if/when this will make the DOJ roster? It should be able to qualify without re-testing since it appears to be mechanically the same as the regular 22/45. I have been looking for a new .22 pistol and this fits the bill perfectly. Wondering if anyone has heard anything about availability in California. I also emailed Ruger and will post if I get a response.

Wow that's awesome.. I bought mine last year and had to shave the grips and epoxy 1911 threads on their to get interchangable grips!

I am personally responsible for this great new product release by Ruger.

"How?" you might ask. Well, after nearly a year of agonizing, last month I finally bought a Ruger Mark III 22/45. Great gun, but I wished that it had changeable grips. (That's why I debated with myself for nearly a year about buying it.) Now that Ruger has my money, they thought it was finally safe to release their new gun so the rest of the world could enjoy it.

Unfortunately, I just got an email back from Ruger customer service saying that at this point they have no plans to have this model certified for sale in California. Hopefully this is just bad info or Ruger will reconsider down the road. Ruger does seem pretty good about having their models certified for sale here and this model seems to lend itself to easy registration without re-testing based on the fact that it is mechanically the same as the already listed 22/45's. Long story short, I wouldn't expect to be able to walk into your local shop and buy one any time soon. Shame, because it really looks sweet and is exactly what I'm in the market for now.

              DIY

its an easy do-it-yourself mod. Shave the stock 22/45 grip on both sides flush with the rest of the frame, drill and tap for 1911 grip bushing, install bushings w/little jb weld, and slap on your favorite 1911 grips. ive got pics of mine if anyone wants to see em.

Please forgive me if I am off my rocker here, but isn't the receiver/barrel the registered part of the gun? In other words, we should be able to send the grip(no serial number) back to Ruger and ask them to replace it with the new style grip frame..?

Your right but Ruger is a bunch of punks about switching things like this out unless warranty work is needed

Get the MKII. It is easier to fieldstrip and no mag disconnect either.

That is a thing of beauty though. Might have to add it to my wish list with the Kel Tec PMR 30.......check those things out......sounds like a lot of fun.......

This is my MKII 22/45 after 10k+ rounds, still sharp rifling in the barrel and minimal holster rub and it has been lots of places in 7 years. They are Great pistols.

Brownells sells Ruger grip frames. It is only a matter of time until they will have these as spare parts. I have a Hunter 22/45 that I will change out when they become available. They are not the Serial numbered part so simple mail order. I hate the magazine release on the standard pistol.

Don't worry riight112. I just bought a regular 22/45, which guarantees that Ruger will announce any day that the replaceable grip version (that I really wanted) is now available for sale in California. The removable grips make so much sense that I think its inevitable that this model will come to CA. It's just a question of when that happens.
