    Zimmerman Arms

    I started a thread the other day asking how to go about building an AR-15 style .22 with a dedicated upper on an AR lower. Thanks to you guys, I got exactly the info I was looking for and will begin that process soon.

    While watching football today, though, I was trying to find good prices on uppers when I happened upon this:

    Very intriguing, and at a slightly lower price than an AR-22, I'm wondering if it might be a better way to go.

    Any thoughts?

      I like it alot. The ones with the longer rails are
      killer. Just remember they are not dress up kits. They qualify as firearms and must be shipped to an Ffl and drosd so it adds a little to the price.

          Dude Im a big rimfire fan, but if you are spending over $799 on the rifle, I think it makes sense to go with a centerfire option vs. rimfire. If you already own a bunch of other rifles or something, then I see why you would get a really nice rimfire rifle. Just my 2 cents

            You can build one for a lot less than 799. The receiver is only 265. Then you add barrel and ruger bolt/ trigger.

                What's a typical transfer fee like? I've never ordered a firearm before.

                Well, I'm looking into an AR platform first so that I can go to a big boy upper eventually. But this just looks...badass.

                The reason I'm looking into a .22 is that I don't know of any outdoor ranges in my area that don't have a waiting list to join. The local indoor range is really just a pistol range, so it just doesn't make much sense to me to fire anything more than a .22 rifle if I'm only looking 75'. That is, unless someone can tell me where I can take a rifle and just shoot stuff up out in the desert somewhere.

                  receiver 265 plus dros tax = 310
                  barrel = 40 -300
                  trigger = 100-300
                  stock = 50-250
                  bolt = 40-165
                  optic = 35-?
                  If you are going to build your typical bull barrel gun with some nice parts and a few cheapies thrown in to keep cost reasonable, then I would say
                  you would get a factory barrel done up by rrages with a ar15 flash hider for 100.
                  You would get a factory trigger group with some work done to it. 100.
                  You would get a worked over factory bolt. 55.
                  You would get a standard carbine stock with buffer tube. 65.
                  You would get a decent scope or red dot. 100.

                  You would be in for about 625.
                  If you upgraded the barrel and/or the optic or stock you are now into the 800 price easily.
                  They ain't cheap if you want them to really POP!

                    Saw the posts about Zimmerman Arms - found the guns for sale on J & G Sales. They are asking $679.95 for a full gun - much cheaper than the $799 listed on Zimmerman Arms website.

                    Found it under tactical rimfire http://www.jgsales.com

                    This is the route I am going to go

                      I am building one and total cost is $470. I think it will be less than 4 lbs.
