    10/22 trigger pack wobble/play

Hi everyone, first time poster. I have used the powers of the search button to find an answer, but to no avail, so I shall invoke the power of The Internet to maybe help find an answer.

I'm pretty new to shooting, and this is my first semi-automatic so after renting one and handling a friend's, I took the leap and bought a 10/22 on "sale" at Big 5. After taking it home yesterday, I came upon what I find to be a fairly annoying problem: The trigger pack moves around inside the receiver. Front-and-back, side-to-side. When I dry fire it half time time it feels like I have a three-stage trigger. I haven't taken it out to the range yet or done any preliminary cleaning, but after taking it apart and finding out the only thing holding the trigger pack in the receiver are two pins, there's not much I can do about it. It doesn't seem like something that'd get better after break in, either.

Ruger customer service said a little bit of wobble is normal, but if it's excessive I should send it in ($$$)...

Is this normal? Does your 10/22 have a wobbly trigger pack? (the one I rented and the one I borrowed didn't...) Should I live with it or are there any quick fixes?

Welcome to the new world of plastic. The new trigger groups in the 10/22's are plastic and will move more than the old metal ones. With that being said. You may still have a problem I would pull the stock off and check that both trigger pins are installed. if they are and you don't see any cracks or anything in the trigger group then it is what it is.

Kidd (coolguyguns.com) makes a trigger pin kit to help with this problem but I haven't seen someone use it on a plastic trigger group. I would run it past Tony Kidd. Here is the link for the trigger pins. http://coolguyguns.com/webstore/inde...7c5bfab8c7bc63

Normal with the new plastic ones. And even a little bit normal with the old metal ones. The old metal ones tend to be a bit tighter though.

Replacing the bottom plastic with OEM bottom metal is not too expensive or hard of an option: http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/RugerOEMtrigger.html

...and a plastic butt pad ...and a plastic barrel band...

I'm starting to suspect the front sight base as well...

Still though, that Clark item seems like a good idea to start off with.

Maybe some trigger shims would do the trick.

Actually there is a fix to get rid of the wobble. It involves drilling a hole on each side of the receiver midway between the assembly pins and tapping so you can use a set screw. You have to grind down the set screws so that it is flush with the receiver. You don't have to tighten the set screws much to take the play out and too much will bow out the receiver.

I think I saw a "how to" on Rimfire central. I'd give ya a link but I'm on my I-Clonephone and can't do it right now.

I have done the set screw fix, Sky Diver mentioned and it works great.

I got it from this guy, www.theworks1022.com , If you don't want to take the time to find it on rimfirecentral.com it's a quick download.
