I notice many, perhaps most, target grade 22lr ammo has lead nose. Why is this? Are lead noses more accurate than copper plated? Just curious.

Lead vs copper accuracy contest

Adding a copper jacket just adds one more variable to the bullet construction by adding extra steps to form the jackets and insert the cores. Variations in jacket thickness, length and shape can add more complications and result in inconsistent results.
The match 22LR ammunition is subsonic and not as succeptible to leading as high pressure/velocity rounds are so why add more opportunities for something to go wrong in the manufacturing of the bullet?Last edited by Fjold; 01-20-2010, 12:25 PM.Frank
