    AMSCOR 22 LR failure

Here it goes-today went to range to shoot my M4 22LR and had round pop-up sound and a lot of smoke came out from everywhere around lower, upper, magazine side. Take mag, , open bolt and found that spent brass didn't extracted. Carefully remove it with screwdriver. Clean everything around, made sure no rounds. Check bore with light-no bullet.
Went back shooting-next magazine had a all kind of problems-FTF, FTE, LS, but after that everything became normal.
No one was injured, no damage (so far I look what I could without disassembly) to rifle and shoot after that incident another 100 rds.

    Here is info for ammo:
AMSCOR 22 LR, High Velocity, 36 grains, hollow point, inside the box can see nubers 84389
    Here are some pics took.
May be it will help to the rest of people.

I just ordered a box of the same stuff for my new buckmark. I'll let you know how the ammo holds up.

It is my second box of 500 and I am not sure if I want to keep shooting this ammo. First box went through flowless. I am pretty newby to 22 stuff and not sure how often this happenning and I am assuming it might be very dangerouse. I really don't want to take chance.
I sent email to AMSCOR and will see what will be answer. Will keep posted.

Happened with the same stuff in my 10/22 and my CMMG conversion kit 3 weeks ago!

This has happened to me on my GSG once. I have shot over 4K through my ruger mark3 with no issues.

Same thing happened 3 times in my Mosquito, just with Armscor. I'll carefully use what I have left and not buy anymore.

It looks like the OBD I had in my Carbon22 upper using Federal. It's also similar to a round of Eley I fired from a bolt gun about 25 years ago. Since you were shooting it in a semi, I'm going to guess that it was something to do with the gun rather than the make of ammo. If it was happening in non-semis, I'd tend to blame the ammo.

I have had squib loads with this crappy Philippine ammo. I have not used it in years. I laughed so hard when Turners tried to sell it recently at $34.99 a brick. it went as low as $21ish after a little while.

Stay away from Armscor .22lr and .22mag ammo, trust me. And PMC .22mag is repackaged Armscor and North American arms recomends to not use it.

The fact that this ammo did this in 2 of my semis that work great with other ammos leads me to blame the ammo not the guns!!

I agree that your case does indicate a problem with the ammo but, until it's tested and found to be defective or someone reports it's happened in non semis, I have doubts. I've seen this happen with many types of ammo in different guns. This includes premium ammo like the Eley which could have, very easily made me loose an eye. I will agree that armscor is low budget ammo though.

This happened on my dedicated 22LR too. Next time I will bring my bolt action and check it out.

It might also help if the chamber is really, really clean.

this type of problem is going to happen in semis more then anything else. A dirty chamber or out of spec ammo can cause the case to not fully seat upon cambering. This creates a condition that leaves the bottom of the case unsupported by the chamber walls when the round goes off. This causes the bottom of the case to blow out as seen in the above pictures.

                          Holy Smokes,
This stuff is indeed junk, I DO NOT RECOMEND IT AT ALL. I had the same problem last weekend. I had two rounds that went poof. I know the first round went down range and the brass was in pieces. I thought it was a anamoly. When the second round that failed went poof, I stopped. Nothing went down range and once I cleared the rifle, I stuck a cleaning round down the barrel and knocked out the bullet. I stopped the use of ARMSCORP right then and there.

I will not use this ammo in anything any longer. Stay away from this junk.

This ammo was purchased from Turners on January 2nd. Check inside the box-if you have the same imprinted by ink number as mine.
