compensator questions for ruger mark

hey folks I had a quick question,


in order to put on a compensator on a ruger mark how would that go?
is it supposed to be threaded?

for example a compensator from tactisol?


not sure how they go on, also is there a dramatic effect from using one?

if the barrel was threaded, and the comp was removable, you'd have an illegal AW on your hands. YOu'd either need to use a maglock of some sort, or else, have the comp blind-pinned to the barrel.

Volquartsen comps are slip on with an O-ring and are secured using the original front sight screw hole.

No alterations required at all.

the tac sol compensators work with threaded barrels, which you cannot have. you can however install it and have it pinned permanently on.

the VQ ones are probably the best bet for us here but theres a giant debate on weither they do anything at all.

I've had one of my bull barrel Mk-II's cut down to 4" and even that short I can't really discern much recoil. Is this being done for recoil reduction or purely aesthetic reasons?

I dont know why anyone would want to reduce the recoil of a 22LR. But, putting weight up front does help with "muzzle climb" if any on the 22LR. I know a flash light and a flip-up iron sight and a tri-rail mount helped reduce the muzzle climb on my shotgun.

It helps a small amount, but most available comps are not efficient. Baffle surface area, chamber volume and port area are the drivers. 3 baffles are about the limit. The third chamber tends to crud up with powder and lead. I make mine from aluminum, it does help second shot recovery. Rimfire does not generate a large gas volume so the concern is redirecting the gas flow upward. Shorter barrels will benefit more from a comp.

If I had one on my MK III Hunter with the 6 7/8" fluted barrel, I think I'd have to put a bipod on it to shoot.

Gem, I would surmise he is just saying Mark for short and figured everyone knew he meant the MK I II and III pistols.

The Volq comp does work a small amount.

It does slip over the muzzle like in the first answer on the thread. It does also scratch a blued finish a small amount.

I have one for the slab side models I'm willing to sell... My 6 7/8 slabside I think is a bit muzzle heavy in the first place. I dont need that extra weight up there.
