    Tacticool 22's Summary

I'll keep this simple...here are my results:

    Best to worst:
    M&P 15-22
    GSG 5
    Colt M4
    Ruger SR22
    Remington VTR
    Walther G22

    Yet to try:
    Sig 522

The SR22 and VTR are just heavy "dressed-up" versions of their regular configurations and IMO, not worth the high price! If you like the 10/22 or Remington then just buy the regular models for a lot less.

Walther G22 is jam-o-matic, I think it needs to go back for service.

Top 3 are all good but the winner IMO is the S&W. It functions just like a real AR with a working bolt release and it's the right weight. The GSG5 is perfectly reliable and accurate but heavy for what it is. The Colt is imo equal to the GSG5 in reliability, accuracy and being over-weight with the fact that it doesn't have a working bolt release knocks it to 3rd place in my ranking.

Don't have the Sig yet but judging by the specs, it's heavy weight is going to place it below the S&W.

You also forgot the RB Precision Evolution Conversion which is a very easy contender for #1. It uses the Ruger 10/22 platform, but allows the use of AR parts, so it's super reliable, mags are more readily available than any other, and if you're like me you own hi-caps that I have owned for many years. The other platforms you cannot legally own hi-caps for because they weren't around "pre-ban" this alone makes the ruger 10/22 the best platform to build on bar none for me.

his results i think are based on what he owns. Not what is out there.

                Accuracy of your Colt?

What kind of ammo did you try with the Colt? Gunblast.com got good results with Wolf Match. The Colt grouped better than the Ruger and S&W they tested. I haven't checked them for results on the other rifles.

Yes these are owned along with some other commom 22's such as the 10/22, 39A, 94-22, SA-22, etc.

My opinion changes as I find new models or find an old gun that catches my eye but currently my favorite is the S&W 15-22. There are some things I'd change about it if I was the manufacturer but for the most part they did a pretty good job on it. I'm looking forward to the short 10 mags to become available because the long ones are a pita to use on the bench!

Why would you shoot $450 a case ammo in a tactical 22? If thats the case why own it? It not a match bench gun.

Is the MP15-22 receiver metal/alloy like the Colt or plastic/synthetic like the Carbon-15?

It should be above the S&W MP15-22

I totally agree with the Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 being the best of the bunch. The Sig 522 is right up there though except for it's lack of sights.

I have owned these 4 so they are the only ones I have an opinion of.

If it's one of the early ones, it probably should go back to S&W. I got mine back in the Fall of 2009 and have put approximately 500 rounds through it to date - CCI Mini-Mags, Stingers, Federal and Winchester bulk pack. I have yet to experience any type of malfunction with it and it is extremely accurate.

Not saying that your results are flawed or anything like that - I know these weapons (the G22) had a TERRIBLE service record when they first came out, but I think S&W has gotten the bugs out of them since then.

I really like mine alot. The only complaint I have so far is the small magazine capacity... it is what it is.

Send yours back to S&W, Smitty. These things are a panic to shoot when they work the way that they should.
