    M261 kit and barrel

I have spent some time looking for a .22 barrel to use with my M261 kit in a standard upper, is there such a thing. I have seen them for other kits but none for the M261.

    Thanks.

I have owned my M261 conversion kit since the 90's and have put thousands upon thousands of rounds down range and never felt the need for a barrel other than my AR barrel.

Accuracy Speaks offers them on their site. I'm not sure how they work, but it looks like you would have to modify the conversion unit to fit their barrel.

Black dog machine makes polymer mags for the 261 kit also.

Thanks guys, I bought the kit in '82 and probably have around 2 k through it. My problem is I like to tinker, and with all the AR lookalikes around now I thought there might be a dedicated barrel for the kit.

I did buy a few Black Dog mags for it, they were on sale last month, couldn't beat $20.00 each and just to make the clones in Sacramento happy they are marked ten rounds only .

          Jim,

If you find a shot out AR barrel, bore out the barrel and adapter for a liner. Wish I'd know about that sale.

              M261 dedicated barrel

I did some checking after I heard a rumor about Olympic Arms dedicated 22 cal upper for the Ar 15. So I called OLy Arms and was told that their current 22 conversion is the M261 bolt. So I would image you could purchase a barrel from them.
They sell the Bolt with a 25 round magazine from Black Dog. Then they found out I was from the Peoples Republic and they told me, sorry-no Kali sales. Then I asked if they would sell just the bolt. They said yes and knocked 25 dollars off the combo price. Had the same problem with Midway Usa, they refused to sell even the bolt to me. Black Dog does sell a Kali ten round mag, so it should fit your old M261, just won't look as cool.

                Jim,

Here's short list for my 261 conversion. Using a shot out (abused) AR 20", drilled the bore for a Brownells 22LR liner. If you don't mind using your chamber adapter, drill this out for the liner too. Knock the pin out from the guide bar, this hole could be drilled and tapped for a 4-40 screw. Align the chamber adapter in the barrel and JB Weld. Chase with drill to assure alignment. Butter up the liner with JB Weld and insert. After epoxy has set, cut chamber and crown muzzle. Bentz chamber reamer might be too tight, a little chamfer at the breech will help. I went ahead and made a chamber adapter since I had cutout the barrel chamber with a 1/2" end mill. Lemme know if you've got questions. I got some BD mags, way better than the insert mags.
