here is my story..
i found an old j. stevens model 56 Springfield. this thing shoots like crap. low and to the right. it has one of them generic rear sights but the elevation blade was missing. easy enough i order a new peg but it's so flimsy and falls out cause it's not really made for this old gun. anyway. the rear dovetail seems to be a 5/16 and the front is defiantly a 3/8. now.. i see plenty of 3/8 rear sights but no 5/16's. what am i doing wrong here? the stocker sight is just not gonna work and i really want the rifle to be accurate. it does have a receiver sight mounting position on the rear of the barrel but it's just a single hole with a vertical slot on each side. i have seen no receiver sights that fit this. it does have a couple of scope mounting holes but apparently they are cusom jobs cause i ordered a side mount from brownells and no go. holes did not line up. man what a pain. anyone know anything about these little fellas? pics below:
