10/22 mags sticking, help?

Hey all! I have been having an issue with my factory 10 rounders, they seem to be sticking, more like not wanting to come out without a hassle. I have about 7 of them and they all seemed to work just great (just dropping out), but I recently changed the stock to a Hogue overmolded one. I checked the clearance, and they seem fine as the mags are easy to snap in like always. Any suggestions? I saw one where the sides were sanded and polished but I want some other options! Thanks!

Other options: sand down the sides of all your magazines, past, present and future.

Suggestion: Sad but true, sand and polish the inside of the stock as recommended so the mags have some wiggle room.
BTW, this also happens with original Ruger wood stocks, too.

Buy a tri-mag holder. You can then just remove them quickly and have a total of 30 rounds ready. That's what I did, had the same problem.

I've noticed that the mags are easier to take out and begining to wear the inside of the well. It is my opinion that with time the problem will resolve itself and mags will drop.

+1 for the trimag, makes it a lot easier to remove your mags.

Although I understand having a single flush magazine would be better for hunting/hiking purposes.

The only thing you've changed is the stock and it is giving you probs, fix that. Measure and find the fatest mag you have and clean up the mag well to that mag. If you file in a small taper on the side walls will help too. Don't tweak mags that don't need it.

I use the dual version of the trimag holder. Gives you a longer "stick" of a magazine. It was a complete main to clip the mags together the first time though.

That was one of the first things I did. i have noticed that all of my mags slide in with no prob, but half of them are hard to get out. i have cleaned them all and checked the non problem ones against the problem ones and i can not find any thing different. I like the tri mag holder, i think i might get 2 of those! Has anyone had any similar issues with the Hogue stock? I did notice that before I changed it, 2 of my 6 were sticking in the wood stock too.

Measure the mag lengths, I have older clear mags and their length will not drop from the newer 10-22s with the plastic trigger housings. Which sucks when we're teaching the kids rimfire rifle steel challenge. BTW, do not file a taper on the mag side of the trigger housing. On some rifles the mag will cock and not fall out.

Thanks for all the suggestions, i'll try the sanding thing on my odd ones that won't fit and I'm looking forward to getting the trimag holder, they look totally bad ***!

When I purchased a hogue stock last year, I used a metal finger-nail file and filed both stock and magazines. Even those clear anniversary edition 10-rounders even stick in the wood stocks, either the clear plastic is stickier or they are molded a little bit bigger.

I had a problem with mine sticking, and replaced the stock mag release button with a Volquartsen extended one. It appeared that I was hanging up on the wood,but after replacement it drops free very easily. I'm wondering if the stock button was not disengaging the mag catch enough to drop free. Maybe not applicable, but it worked for me. Good excuse to upgrade to a hot rod part, anyway. I too didn't really want to sand down my mags, as reliable as Ruger mags are.

Could drill and tap the stock mag release, I use a 1/4x20 cap screw with a long shank, cut off the cap and dress up. That way the extra leverage will help swing the mag plunger out of the way.
