    Question Ruger MKI Bullbarrel 22

Why is it that request for Ruger MK I are at a minimum if that? Are there existing issues? I would like to hear your comments and learn at the same time.

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!!!!

'Cause they haven't been made for years. The current Ruger is the Mk III. I have a couple of Mk II's and they are great. Basic gun is the same; the different marks deal with some evolutionary changes. None in my opinion are major. Example, when going from the Mk I to the Mk II, Ruger scalloped the rear of the receiver tube to make grasping the bolt "ears" easier. O.K. with the Mk I; easier with the Mk II. Stuff like that.

The basic gun has been around for decades and is pretty foolproof. Will last for a long time with reasonable care. I have a 22/45 from about '84 or '87 and have put thousands of rounds thru it. A little scratched but works like a champ.

MKls are fine accurate pistols but they lack the refinement of the MKll and MKlll pistols. A MKl with a bull barrel should be a good shooter. Things like last shot hold open and loaded chamber indicators don't make it shoot any better.
MKls don't have any issues to themselves just the usual hard for people to reassemble thing. Once over that they are fun and reliable and accurate.

As far as I've ever been able to tell, the only noticeable difference from Mk1 to Mk2 is the slide release and bolt hold open on the last shot (plus other minor differences). The Mk2 is my favorite of the 3, but I never had any issues with the Mk1 I used to own (and sold later). They all shoot about the same

I appreciate very much the inputs, I purchased it about 36 yrs. ago and have not fired it since. I just don't hear much about them, I guess, as soon as I find the mag, I will take it out. Thanks everyone..

I have an original MKl magazine send me a pm. The follower button was changed to the other side when Ruger started making the A100 frames. The safety on the MKl functions as the bolt release.

Mike, that is 36 years of fun you have been missing out on! You need to get that thing out and make up for lost time

I have a bull barrel MK I and a standard barrel MK I, and they are both great pistols. The MK II is a bit more refined (bolt hold open, etc.), but the MK I is still simple and elegant as ever.
