22 Upper or 22 Conversion for AR?

I am looking to convert one of my AR's to .22lr but I am confused as to the difference between the complete 22 upper from say Spikes or tactical solutions. And the conversion kit from DPMS. Seems to me that they are saying you just drop in a different bolt and you are good to go? You use the same barrel?

Also in your opinion what is the best 22 upper, best being takes the most types of cheap 22 ammo without problems? Thanks for the enlightenment guys.

The conversion kit, is just that. Convert your existing .223 Ar upper to shoot a .22lr. It's as simple as switching out your AR BCG with the .22 kit bolt and using a .22 lr specific magazine. Makes your AR fun to shoot at 1/10 of the cost.

Spike's among other companies makes specific .22 uppers. The .22 specific uppers will be more accurate that .22 bolt kits. I have both a spike's .22lr kit and complete upper. Both work great, but I prefer the upper for long range shooting (100 yards +).

I have the tactical solutions upper- and i love it. My buddy has the spikes and although he had a few problems (spikes made it right fast) his has shot everything his put through it including the dirty remington gold bulk. My tacsol has been 100% perfect 2000 rds, federal bulk and fed champion. a dedicated upper is just that sweet! In the next few weeks there's going to be a working bolt release too (its on a different thread around here)

The big difference is twist rate, a .22 dedicated upper will have 1 in 16" twist rate. I went the cheap route and enjoy the cost benefits. Someday I'd like a dedicated upper but it's way down my list. I do recommend the Black Dog Mags either way you go.
