    Questions for GSG-5 owners

I've been wanting one of these since they came out but I've managed to hold off this long. I'm a huge MP5 fan and these seem the only affordable way to get a clone. With current sale prices, my willpower is rapidly running out, but I have a few questions before I go commit to one.

Will GSG still be able to support(warranty fixes, etc) these rifles now that they've lost the law suit to HK? In other words, if I buy one and it's a lemon, will I be able to get it fixed or replaced?

Are there parts that owners always have to replace or is it pretty much good to go right out of the box? I know people put HK parts on because they want to, but are there parts that just suck from the factory?

Are 10 round magazines difficult to find, especially now that GSG can't make more.

Bottom line question, I guess is is it still worth buying one even though the manufacturer is out of the loop or should I wait for the next MP5 look-a-like to come along?

Speaking of that, I heard that some other company got the go ahead from HK to build something similar, anyone have details on this? If that's true, it might be worth waiting for.

Yes they are warrantied through http://www.americantactical.us/
Mine has been perfect out of the box. I did change some pieces though. Plenty of info on them here http://www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=6&f=41
Aftermarket mags are available & are identicle.
HK is going to run with the ball now. Some info here on all new .22 cal tactical rifles. http://tactical22.net/index.html

The GSG5 is a excellent gun; here is a photo of mine & a photo of the new HK version.

      from ARFcom

ATI will still honor the warranty.

ATI has stated that they will still be importing in parts & accessories, after they are renamed.

ATI stated that GSG will produce the GSG5, but it will be renamed and reconfigured to look less like a MP5.

        1. i suggest you shoot the thing ASAP, so maybe the seller will deal with it, especially if its a brick and mortar store...

        2. most say to replace the screw set...

        3. no... well promags makes em too.

        4. i thought so too... so far, it's a heck of a toy...

        www.rrages.com for accessories and junk.

i go to www.22tactical.com for more GSG stuff.

I would wait until the HK/Umarex MP5's get onto the market (eh... sometime next year?). They may or may not be a better deal. I'm not a fan of the way the GSG-5 disassembles, I'm hoping the HK branded version is put together less like an airsoft gun. There's no details about these guns yet so nobody knows, they might be made poorly (Umarex has a bad rep for this).

Is the Colt AR22 crap? Umarex makes that one I thought.

The only upgrades I have done to my GSG-5 is install the replacement screw set and the HK push pin set. I am glad I did, it should be good to go for a long time now.

I bought the Colt M4 Ops made by Walther/Umarex. Then I read the GSG-5 was going away and a barely used one showed up in the classified for $400 so I bought that too.

They both shoot well. The Colt was a little finicky at first with ammo and needed to have its bolt spring tightened. It seems fine now. The GSG has been shooting CCI Minimags & Remington Golden bullets without issue.

I bought several of the short 10 round factory GSG-5PK mags from Midway USA. These short mags wouldn't hold the bolt open on last round. The long GSG-5 factory mags holding 22 rounds blocked to hold only 10 rounds worked every time. I don't know why and ATI didn't know why either - I sent them back to Midway.

I don't have anything negative to say about either gun. If the GSG-5 looks good to you - go get one and have some fun.

I just got back from Turners, I bought the last GSG-5 carbine they had left. Glad I didn't wait any longer. They had some of the SD models, but I wanted the normal one.

Thanks for the link to rrages.com as well, I sent him some money for stuff already as well.

Looking forward to some fun plinking!

Looks like you and I are on the same wavelength.

I pick up my GSG-5 from Turner's on Friday, I also thought about the SD version but decided on the standard model, and I have recently sent RRages about $115 for various parts.

This is going to be a fun week!

My GSG-5 is the funnest gun I have had in years! My Shilen barrelled 700 is more accurate, and my 12 ga more noisy, but for hands down fun you can't beat the GSG-5. Standard mods such as Rrages screw mod, HK push pins (all on ARF.com) make it more reliable. Mags are available at Turners (dual pack of 10 rounders under $40) Hawthorne store. Ask for Mike.

ATI will support the rifle, parts and warrenty, and on ARF.com they have a section where you can ask questions to the importer (ATI).

Hope you have as much fun with your as I did mine.
