    S&W 22A Owners

i am thinking about getting a model 22A. I was in possession of model 41, but my mother-in-law wanted it back... i miss that thing, but I am not going to shell out 900-1000 for one of my own.

i still have a few model 41 mags i bought, and it is my understanding that they are compatible w/ the 22A.

i just want feedback on the 22A, as it sounds like a decent plinker for the price. Any real difference beween the regular & bull barrels, 5" & 7".

chime in and let me know. thanks ahead of time.

Good plinker. Magazine release in the front of grip is different for me. I had 5'' good cheap shooter.

The 22A with a 5.5" barrel is a good plinker. Be aware that mounting a red dot is not as easy as it seems. The intergrated mount type interferes with the rail where the rail bolts are and the bolt spacing is not good for some types. Using separate scope mounts works fine.
The 7" barrel is good for mounting a scope. I am using a NcStar cheap pistol scope and it is killer on golf balls at 75 yards. Get both barrels they are cheap.
Don't know about mags and the 41.
You can't go wrong with the price for fun value.

The magazines are NOT compatible. Though the pistol is very accurate, watch out for wear and tear on the grips and the rear of the frame. At the gun club, I've seen lots of them broke down, where the end of the slide meets, and the grips often separate in the seam, blasting hot gas and lead into the web of your hand.

Try looking for a used Model 41, and ask if the seller can meet your budget. If you cannot find a Model 41 for the price you want, I suggest getting a Browning Buckmark, which will last you longer and has a ton of aftermarket accessories.
