Hi All,
Picked up a GSG-5 SD from Sharpshooters in Torrance, read all the threads over
at ARF.com before the ten days was up and got an idea of what needed to be done.
Ordered parts from Rrages and replaced the screws, added HK pushpins and a Navy lower.
Range Day 1- Took it out with my one 10 round magazine with Remington golden bullets
and had nothing but problems, FTF, FTE, double jams, etc. I was thinking, Oh Cr*p, did I really
mess up?? Remembered what ARF.com said about ammo so went home
and rooted around and found some more .22 ammo.
Range Day 2-
Changed ammo to CCI Mini-Mags and problems went away. Tried the
Remington golden bullets, same problems.
Range Day 3-
Picked up some mags from Turners (twin pack, $40) and decided to try them out with the
current ammo. CCI mini-Mags ran fine, and oddly the Remington golden
bullets did too. Ran 300 round through it and it ran perfectly. No jams
of any kinds. The mags ran well also. Found that if you take the mags
apart to clean, make sure you DON'T overtighten the little screw that
holds the mag loader piece, if you do the mag runs slow. Seeing as how
the range was empty Fred let me do some rapid fire to test function, and
no issues.
Range Day 4- Ran a few hundred rounds of CCI and Remington
through it, no issues. Remington ammo is dirtier than CCI but when you
have a lot of it, well it needs to get shot.
Impressions- Fun gun, accurate, no problems with anything now.
Want to get out to the desert for some longer ranges and see how
thing do.
Specs:
Basic GSG-5 SD with....
Screw modifications and blue loctite
HK Pushpins
Navy lower
2x Red dot sight taken off another .22
Information sources:
My thanks to all the info at ARF.com, they really helped make this
a simple project, and gave me a lot of ideas and solutions. They
have photos of how to take it down, and what parts to watch when
you do the break down. If you have a GSG-5, the information they
have is a must have. The importer (ATI) even has a section where
they respond to questions and comments, and are great folks to deal
with.
Good shooting to you all,
CaliRN
