Can anyone give some info on this gun? Anschutz .22lr

Hey guys, I came into a neat little .22lr rifle tonight.. trying to find some info on it. Its an Anschutz, imported by Savage which dates it from '63 to '81. Model 54 Sporter, .22lr. Serial 824673A. Matching bolt. Also has a Weaver V22 scope on it that looks like it probably came with the gun, or was purchased at the same time.

The people I got it from said its been sitting in a garage for 30+ years, though the thing looks like its been sitting at the bottom of a lake.. kidding, its not THAT bad. It is pretty rusted on the outside, though to my surprize, the bolt, barrel and trigger components look very clean (Not perfect, but fixable).

So I'm wondering, anyone know how I can date this thing? I haven't been able to find anything on it really.. just that Savage only imported then from '63 to '81 which gives me a ballpark age. I plan to clean it up best I can, but does anyone know where I might find parts if needed? How hard are they to find? My first thought was that I'd probably end up having to sift through parts bins at gun shows.. but Anschutz is a great company.. maybe they have some decent aftermarket support?

Well, pictures will come probably tomorrow around noon, its way too late right now. I did look on gunbroker and a few other places and found this rifle going anywhere from $650 to $1200 depending on condition.. so thats kinda cool I guess. I also got a rusty ol' 20ga side by side.. probably keep it as a wallhanger.

If I had that I would buy a Lilja barrel, and a new stock and just keep the action and trigger. Championshooters.com has a lot of accessories for Anschutz.

Thanks for the info! According to the description on the link you gave me, this is indeed the 54 match action. Its in great shape too, thank God they stored the rifle with a closed bolt. When I was inspecting the gun, I went ahead and cycled some snap caps through it and.. WOW, lightest trigger pull I think I've ever seen.. must be less than 1lb even without being cleaned in 30+ years, talk about hair trigger.

The wood is in decent shape except for one nasty gash on the bottom near the trigger guard. Theres a little discoloration just under the roll over which looks like it may be slight sun bleeching, hard to tell just yet. I haven't decided yet whether or not to keep the gun stock or to start replacing parts, but I think a stock and barrel are probably going to be priority if I do decide to swap them out. The bore is surprizingly immaculate, but the outside of the barrel is covered in little rust spots which I have a feeling will reveal some exterior pitting once removed.

my brother has one and the trigger pull is not even a pound, we are talking of ounces.

before you replace the barrel, remember that a lot of the Anschutz accuracy is based on the quality of their barrels...it would be hard to improve on it.

i'm thinking clean off the rust first and see what you have. even if you have to polish out the exterior of the barrel, it would be worth having it re-blued
