    S&W MP15 .22 or COLT M16 style???????

Owners sound off please. Accuracy and Reliability?

I've heard some really bad things about S&W relibility??

I've also heard that by adjusting the gas systom on the COLT you can shoot the cheep/crappy bulk ammo??

Anybody who owns one of these I'd like to hear from you...

    THANKS GUYS!

i got the Colt and am trying to buy the Smith buuuut my local gun shop (Turners WC) :-) is torturing me by not having it and trying to sell me a SIG 522 (bastards :-) hahaha.
Anyhow the Colt I have I have put about 1000 rounds through it so far I have fired Remmington bulk (worked perfectly!), Wolf Match (ftf, lite strikes), CCI Mini Mags (some ftf's but generally fine), some ammo in a white box not sure what is was but it worked fine, some winchester bulk worked fine.
To clarify though all the feed and strike issues went away after about 250 rounds.
Accuracy - I cant complain. I can shoot shotgun shells off target stands at 75 yards and I can hit 2" steel ringers at 75 yards. Target wise I can concentrate and turn the X into and O :-)

I concur with Pennys Dad. My Colt M4 .22 is reliable and will shoot anything EXCEPT Remington stuff. The gun is one hole accurate at 50 yards with the iron sights. I find the gun to be well made and very, very fun to shoot. Keep in mind that ALL .22 LR firearms can be finicky about the ammo they eat. Admittedly, it took my Colt 300+ rounds of ammo fired through it until it would shoot most all ammo reliably. There are a lot of BAD posts about both the S&W and Colt tactical .22 rifles. Do a little research and you will see, as I did, that most of the negative posts come from people who don't own the rifles. Most of those people just propogate stuff they have read or "heard" somewhere, usually the Internet. The Colt, IMHO, just looks better than the S&W. The Colt is ALMOST an exact replica of the Colt M4 5.56 rifle. The exceptions are, the forward assist plunger and bolt lock lever are nonfunctional; the magazine holds the bolt back after the last shot is fired although if you remove the magazine, the bolt stays open. The gun does not break down like a standard AR15, the S&W does. The S&W does not have a forward assist plunger, but the bolt lock back works like on an AR15. The safety on the Colt rotates 180 degrees, the safety on the S&W rotates 90 degrees like on an AR15. The S&W does not have a dust cover over the ejection port, the Colt has a functioning dust cover....at least mine does. The Colt has a removeable carry handle, the S&W does not. The lower receiver on the S&W is made of plastic, the Colt's is aluminum. The bottom line is, shoot them both and check them both out for fit and finish and then decide. BTW - when adjusting the Colt for standard velocity ammo, you adjust the tension on the bolt spring since the gun is a direct blowback gun. With the Colt, you would be wise to stick with HV ammo.

        Thread derail:

Wait for the new Heckler and Koch (Umirex AR) version. They're also coming out with an HK MP5 .22.

I have shot the Colt and I own the S&W, it runs everything I put in it. I have shot over 3K rounds with only 1 FTF. The gun is easy to clean, has AR lower partsand looks very cool, both are very accurate. I would handle both then decide. They are fun to shoot.

I'm very familiar with the GSG5 and the Colt and today I put a few hundred rounds thru the S&W 15-22.

Initially the GSG5 was more reliable than the Colt but currently the Colt has proved equally reliable and accurate. Both are good just different styles

The S&W 15-22 is the lightest of the three. It has a working bolt release which I really like. The Colt needs the charging handled pulled back to release it. +1 for he S&W for the working bolt release. Shooting it proved ewually reliable and accurate as the Colt and GSG5.

Looks wise I prefer the authentic forend and feel of the Colt but I like the smaller mags of the GSG5. I like the working bolt release on the S&W and it's light weight. If I had to choose one it would probably be the S&W.

I read a rumor that S&W is bringing out a fixed stock version and one with the M4 style forend. I'd like that better than the full accessory rail forend.

HK has the AR 22 coming out soon and hopefully it has a working bolt release.

For you guys who are on the fence ans don't know what you like, I think it would be wise to wait and see what the HK looks like before dropping $600 on one of these toys.

You can get the S&W for under 400 + transfer fees.

A question about the Colt M4 .22. Do these guns share the same lower receiver as the bigger (.223) rifles ? Is it possible to attach a .223 complete upper to one of these .22's lower receiver ? I've got a bet riding on this.
