    Which 22lr to get?

So going through the Turners Christmas flyer and have narrowed it down to a couple "ar" type 22lrs...

    COLT M4 Carbine 22lr price 570
Remington 597 VTR CS Tactical price 400
    Ruger SR-22 Rifle price 500
    S&W M&P 15-22 rifle price 480

curious to know if anyone has any of these, have read about the 597, and heard bad things. Colt seems a little over prices for me, so I am in between the 15-22 and SR-22

    anyone own an sr-22?

Personally, I would get the Ruger SR-22 because I have a bunch of preban 25 & 30 round mags. If limited to 10 round mags, it would be a tough call between them all.

      ruger of course

if you ever decide to upgrade you have tons of choices for ruger. from what i read, even the barrells are interchangeable, so your options just went way higher.

Bought the SR-22 due to the preban 25 round mags I have. I love it.

If limited to 10 rounders, I would look hard at the S&W, but the SR-22 has a solid proven track record and the Nordic kit is built to last. Tough call.

How about the Sig 522? Turners has them & they take Black Dog magazines.

              Ruger SR-22, cant beat the 10-22 action/receiver for reliability/upgradeability.

I have the sr-22 and its awesome, I shot over 1k rounds and not one jam. I used cci mini mags, Remington mohawk hv, and federal. I did have to tighten the take-down screw and the 2 hand-guard screws about every 300 rounds. I did not want to over tighten them to the point of damaging the threads, is there any torque specs out there for these? The other thing I did not like is that I had to remove the 4 screws holding on the top plate so I could disassemble it. I tried to do it without taking the cover off but I could not make it work. There seems to be some variation in experiences with disassembly, some have to remove the top cover and others don't. I do not have any sights on it yet, so I cannot say anything about accuracy, but I am sure it's accurate. The best part is that I can use pre-ban high capacity mags on it.

Well, I have the Colt M4 .22, the GSG-5, and have recently bought the new SIG SG522 (10 day wait). Both the Colt and the GSG-5 are reliable and accurate but cost a pretty penny. Personally, I would get the S&W over the Ruger. Basically what you are getting is high priced frame and that is it. The SIG SG522 has been criticized for not coming with iron sights.....neither does the SR-22!!!! The SR-22s that I have seen for sale are pretty pricey too. Besides, you guys really think the Ruger looks like an AR? NOT!!!!!!!!!!

Why not a real AR lower with a .22 upper?

Used Ruger 10/22 and an Archangel kit.

Because it's less expensive and more reliable to have a dedicated .22 then to convert back and forth. If I had the money I would, but I am going to use that money that I saved for a Vz. 58

TacSol dedicated uppers are dead-nuts reliable.

But yes, it's a more expensive route. It's another good option for hi-cap owners though, and Ciener mags can be re-built into Black Dog's.

I'd go with the Ruger based on reputation alone of the 10/22 it is based on. I don't own any of the models listed.

The Ruger is over-priced and fugly.
