    Trendkill and Son's 10/22 Project....WITH PICS!!!

So....my son is 7 years old and he took interest in shooting some time back. I picked up a plain jane 10/22 thinking it would be a good practice rifle...(low recoil / quiet / simple operation.

Problem was , in order for him to get up on the sights...he would have to force his neck and head uncomfortably foward to use the sights. This caused him to choke up on his hold which just made the experience frustrating for him.

I ditched the synthetic (adult) stock....actually I still have it. But anyways...I went down to the SJ Gun Exchange and rummaged around in the stock barrel....I found an old wood stock....paid the 5 bucks and went home.

The object was to take a few inches off the butt...that way his head would end up closer to the sights (adding a scope too) without him having to adjust the grip he is comfortable with.

So....here we are sanding off the old stain and laquer after having cut the stock.....and yes...we were rather enjoying dust particles entering our lungs....we were bonding. The design of the stock is inspired exclusively by my son....I'm just there to make sure it gets done this year.

    Workin hard....

    Havin fun with dad....

    Got the primer on....three coats.

    And now....the under coat.

Your son will remember this for a long time, if not forever. Good man!

I am curious tho; why is the undercoat green. Does it serve a particular purpose or is that the only way it comes. Obviously I know nothing about the subject.

          Thanks guys.....

Yeah....the hulk will lie beneath another coat of black....

Have you guys ever seen those green labeled "Monster Energy Drink" cans..??
Thats kinda where we're goin with it.....it was his idea.

I do hope he still has the rifle well on to the time he has his own kids.....and I hope he will share the same kind of time with them. Its a cool way to create a reminder of that time shared.

I will add pictures as the beast morphs.....

              Thanks again.

              This is sorta the inspiration.....

I think its going to be a little more like "Tiger Stripes" or "Lightning" though.....we're not lookin to have an advertisement on the rifle......but he likes the color scheme.

Seeing this takes me back 20 years to when I was his age. He had an old Swedish Mauser that looked like it'd been to hell and back. It basically became our "project", since my Dad never had much interest in firearms. To this day, I can remember the pride I felt when I finally got to fire it.
