Help on choosing a 22? Bought a Marlin 795 from Basspro

So I bought the Marlin from Basspro.

First off, they could have streamlined the process a bit better.
it took about 2 hours to get through the people waiting in line. I got there about 630 and my ticket was #37
    they were serving #2.

So after an hour, they were at #20 or so.. then finally alot of people left. I guess they got tired of waiting and soon it was 37. did the dros which took a good 30 minutes or so. not the fastest and they were adamant to get all the data on dros right, even making me correct a few things, which in the past with other FFLs worked just fine.

I guess I cant start the rebate thing until after i pick it up.

So ive decided to jump in on the 22 rifles.
Im all AR'ed out almost.. haha

Id like to get a simple 22 rifle but which one? what brand?
Ruger? been in the biz for a while?
    Marlin? Savage? what else? why?

it will be just for fun plinking and intro to my nephew and cousins once they are a few years older.

I know rugers have alot of aftermarket stuff, but I dont think Ill be doing any of that. just want a stock accurate rifle.

seems like the marlin 60/795 with tech sights is what you want

I love my Marlin 60. Accurate, reliable, cheap ($), and no mags to worry about.

Ruger 10/22. Just because right now you don't plan on customizing it doesn't mean you won't want to later. You will

My Ruger 10/22 has not failed me in 35+ years. A little bobble with cheap ammo once in a blue moon, but even that is rare.

Depends on how much you can/want to spend. Ruger 10/22 is great even stock. But if it's too much, Marlin has the Model 795 for cheap. I see you've posted in the thread dedicated to it already. Those $120 with $20 rebate deals are killer. I paid $180 after rebate for mine, and have no regrets.

Ruger 10/22 though I shoot my CZ-452 alot because its a Bolt Action and I collect and shoot WW2 Snipers which are mostly Bolt.

Used Model 60s can be had for under $100. They're everywhere.

Marlin Mod 60. I am having loads of fun with my Colt 22lr but you said your AR'ed out. I have been eyeing the Magnum Research 22lr it is like 2lbs total.

+1 for the Marlin model 60. It's a great gun and I've had lots of fun with mine.

the 10/22 is the rifle to get, imho. ive got two of them. and theyre both awesome. even if you dont do anything to them, theyre great shooters. it hits what you point it at, and doesnt jam. ive shot the cheapest garbage ammo, gone through 3 year stints of shooting every other weekend and not cleaning them, dropped them in the dirt, shot them underwater (JOKE DO NOT ATTEMPT), and they just run awesome. well, thats my vote. ruger 10/22.

I go with B.D. Dubloon on this. Ruger 10/22, even unmodded, is a fine .22 rifle. Reliable, easy to maintain. If money is an issue, bypass a new one at $220 and check for decent used ones - in this economy they're showing up very cheaply in lots of places.
                        I'm good with numbers:
                        .22 .32 .380 .40 5.56 .223

                          Marlin 60 or 795.

Not much aftermarket support, but...if you are looking for a plinker, it's what you want.

It's cheaper than a 10/22 as well, and I THINK I saw somewhere that either Big 5, or BassPro or someone was having a black friday sale on the 795 for 100 dollars plus DROS?

Don't quote me on it though.

even in this economy, rugers are holding their prices, pick up on old one, you might pay more, but you get true blued instead of painted and metal instead of plastic..

i have zero regrets for the 300 i spent a couple months ago for a 1971 ruger 10/22 never fired still in the box.. brand new at big 5 would have been 275 after dros and everything, this way i have a freaking awsome rifle..

look for a 70's or 80's model, my early 90's is also still pretty good.

If you want a bolt gun try the CZ 452 American or the Ruger 77/22. They are a lot nicer guns than the Savage or Marlin bolt guns.
