Is there any way to ....

legally posses and shoot a Ruger Charger pistol in CA? I'm sorry for what is probably a question already answered, but I couldn't find anything using "search".

you would have to get an out of state dealer to convert it to single shot
then ship it to a dealer
    then pick it up
then make the mag non-detachable (some kind of bullet button)
then make it back to semi auto non single shot

That is what I thought......Screw it..I'll just get a MK 2 , MK 2 pistol with a long, heavy and the ten round mag. in the handle (like that makes a diff., is this state govtmt on crack, or what?) and be happy.

I just liked the looks of the charger and it would be a range gun.

Buy one and have it shipped to a middleman FFL.

Sacrifice a 10/22 mag by filling it completely with epoxy, creating a single-shot sled out of it.

Fabricate a bullet-button for the 10/22 magazine release.

Ship those two items to the middleman FFL who will install those for you and then re-ship your gun to an FFL in CA.

Charger is DROS'ed as a single-shot roster-exempt pistol. Once you take possession you may replace the sled with a 10rd magazine. You must keep the bullet button though, as the gun would be an assault weapon without it.

Yes, they are on crack. A 22lr assault weapon, yeah the gang bangers are going to buy boatloads of those for their wars. Better keep those out of this state with cleverly worded legislation to keep the bodies from piling up in the streets.

You wouldn't have to make a bullet button. Just push out the pin that holds the mag release. remove the lever and put a mag in that holds 0 rounds. you could leve the mag release lever off and use it as your tool to change mags. I know this works because mine fell out at the range and I havent fixed it.

FYI, gang bangers love .22lr. They'll take whatever they can get their hands on. That said, a .22lr "assault weapon" is still retarded.

What if you just converted a regular 10/22 to a charger? with a bullet button of course.

                sorry for the thread-resurrection.

Once a rifle, always a rifle!

Once its been drosed as a LR then it can never be registered as a pistol. Only virgin 10/22 receivers can

I remember a guy letting me shoot one back in the early 90's at Lytle Creek when you could shoot anything and everything up there.

That would be a violation of Federal Law, specifically the NFA. You would be creating a short barreled rifle if you did that.

I never understood the point to a Ruger Charger. What exactly is it supposed to be or do?

Isn't it very ungainly as a pistol?

                              Wouldn't a regular carbine 10/22 be better?

I'm not at all trolling, I honestly don't "get it".
