    browning buckmark rant

    rant on
    so i am pissed...
i recently purchased a burris fastfire II optic for my browning buckmark contour URX and the damn thing wont fit on my handgun. the bolt in the mount is .148" diameter and the slots in the rail of the buckmark are .138" wide. what crap engineering. thanks browning. i called them up and they were less than helpful, did not know the specs of their product and offered that i can send it in to them to look at. big help. now if i want to use my optic on the pistol then i am going to have to modify either the rail on the gun or the bolt on the mount. not happy.
BTW the mount works fine on my ruger mark III, the slots are .160" on that rail.

i guess it is probably not a problem unless you want to put a burris fastfire II with the picatinny/weaver mount on it - cause it won't fit.

It's Browning's fault that YOU didn't check specs??? Not every accessory will fit every weapon.

i did not need to check specs. it is a little thing called 'industry standard' when they engineered the rail they should have designed it to accept industry standard mounts of the weaver and picatinny variety. seriously, what is the use of buying a handgun with a built in rail if that rail wont accept a standard accessory mount. also i did call them and they could not give me the spec, he told me to send it in so they could look at it. also as i wrote in my previous post that ruger got it right and the mount fits on the ruger rail without a problem. all they had to do was maunfacture the slots about .015" wider. it is an engineering blunder. thanks browning.

Did the place you buy it from say it would fit the buckmark?

no. i did not ask that question. look it is this simple:
the weaver and picatinny rails are industry standards. they are built to a specification. all accesories that are made to that spec should work.
the browning buckmark comes with a weaver rail.
the burris fastfire II came with a picatinny/weaver mount.
the browning buckmark's slots are too narrow to accomadate the burris mount.
the burris mount works great on my ruger mark III with a weaver rail.

That does suck. One of the reasons you probably spent the extra dough on the countour was for the rail. I would have assumed it would have been standard weaver 0.180" grooves. Seems like the Ruger isnt either but at least its a bit bigger.

Wonder if one of the other mounts would work:

Is the optics designed for Picatinny or Weaver?
Taken from brownell's website "...accessories designed for a Weaver system will, in most cases, fit on a “Picatinny” system. The reverse, however, is probably not the case. Due to the larger recoil groove, “Picatinny” accessories will not fit a Weaver system."

Probably a fake Buckmark. Sell it to me cheap and problem solve.

mif_slim - as i explained the slot in the rail is too small, hence the bolt that clamps to the rail does not fit into the slot.

whitehot - thank you, indeed it does suck. here is the mount that i have that came with the burris fastfire II:
410335 Mount - Picatinny / Weaver for FastFire and FastFire II
i even called burris before i purchased and they said yes that will fit on your buckmark and your ruger mark III. they were half right, but i don't think it is a burris problem. i will be calling browning again on monday and maybe burris too.

kenshinoro2007 - i already have a ruger mark III. i am hoping it is not a POS.

bobotheclown - the mount i have is for both picatinny and weaver. i called burris prior to purchase and was assured that the picatinny/weaver mount would work on both the ruger mark III & the buckmark contour URX. here is the mount:
410335 Mount - Picatinny / Weaver for FastFire and FastFire II

vega - i will sell it to you for $550, it is special one-of-a-kind with super precision ultra tight rail.
