Muzzle Velocity for Wolf Match Target .22LR and 23" Barrel

Does anyone know the muzzle velocity for the Wolf Match Target .22LR exiting a 23" barrel? I do not have a chronograph, and I need the muzzle velocity to run through the JBM calculator to generate a DOPE table. Thanks.

Hope this may help. Don't have chrono either...or a 23" barrel

I have a cronograph send me a PM if you're in the San Diego area, and we can set up a time to meet at the range.

I also don't have a chrono, and can't add that much to the thread.

I do however know that wolf shoots much better out of my 18" barrel than my 20".

I can get 5 shots (@50 yards) through one hole pretty consistently with my 18" barreled 10/22.

It will vary rifle to rifle - nature of the beast. If you want to run it through a chrono I can bring mine to APTS - just let me know as its not something I normally take to work.

Rifle barrels will vary and also the ammo will vary from lot to lot. Wolf MT is nominally rated at 1080fps, but from my 21" Savage MKII barrel I have had lots and odd rounds from 995fps to 1115fps. The average from my rifle seems to ~1050fps.

Generally, all things being equal, the 22lr reaches maximum velocity in a 18-20" barrel.
            Luck favors the prepared.

The original battle plan did not survive initial contact with the enemy.

The limited test i did came out as my 14 inch contender pistol over the chrono a 1105 fps and my freinds 40x with a 26 inch barrel went 1055fps out of the same box of Wolf m/t

Unfortunately, this lists 1050 FPS for the Wolf MT, which is the average FPS, shot from a rifle with a shorter barrel than mine. It's a common number that does not seem to apply to me. Thanks anyway.

Thanks for the offer, but I live about 4 hours from San Diego.

Thanks Bill. I will keep your generous offer in mind when I attend the next .22 tactical shoot. Right now, I am trying get my DOPE for this weekend's silhouette match, held in town.

I was at the last APTS .22 tactical match and with my Anschutz, I couldn't use Randall's DOPE chart. The rounds downrange at 75 and 100 yds were doing funny things. Someone suggested that perhaps with my longer barrel that the Wolf ammo was coming out at a higher velocity than 1050 FPS.

From your previous experience, it sounds like the Wolf MT reaches its maximum velocity of 1050 FPS and that my 23" barrel should not add any more speed to the bullet.

What kind of "funny things" were happening at 75 and 100yds? Understand that environmental factors have a greater impact on 22lr performance/trajectory than other rounds. DOPE does noticeably change during the match day as conditions change.

The only way to know what your barrel does is first chrono it.

I think the "funny things" may be a bad scope. For example, at the last APTS .22 tactical shoot, I used the DOPE table that Randall made for 100 yards, and it was still shooting low at about 6 inches. At a small bore silhouette shoot today, my DOPE for 100 yards was an actual 13.5 MOA, different than the ~6 MOA that JBM calculated and the 7-8 MOA from Randall's table. I played all the variables on the JBM calculator, such as the muzzle velocity, the angle-to-target, sight height, temperature, etc. I would get the 13.5 MOA for 100 yards from playing with the different variables, but it would drastically affect the MOA for 75 and 85 yards. The only explanation I can draw is the scope is broken. I will know definitely when I get my Nikon get next week if the current BSA scope is broken.

Would it be possible that your scope adjusts in 1/8 MOA but the knob is marked in 1/4 MOA? That would explain roughly double the drop. My 100yd DOPE is about 6.5 MOA. If not the scope is POS.

At APTS my 75 yd come up is 3.0 MOA and at 100 its 6.75 with Wolf MT & ME. It soulds like your scope is either tits up or possibly has a >25 turret with .125 adjustments. Do you have another scope you can put on your rifle to see? If so use the other scope.

I think I learned something new today! You guys are right that the scope is alright. The turret is marked "1 CLICK 1/8 M.O.A." It goes from 0 to 14, and I always assumed that each whole number is a MOA. I'm still stuck on the system that I learned from using a friend's scope with 1/4 MOA per 1 click at the last few .22 tactical shoots. It's really each 8th number is a full MOA (8 * 1/8 = 1). Time to relearn things. Thanks.
