You say 50 yards, which makes me think rifle. But then you mention Neos, which I think only ever ended up coming out in a pistol. If your wife is shooting .22LR handguns at 50 yards then she is pretty hard core. I'd think she would want a dedicated target pistol like the Ruger MkII (or MkIII) with a heavy barrel and target sights or a pistol scope. But the heavy barreled pistols are a bit much for my girlfriend. She prefers the lighter, tapered barrel. Maybe a Ruger with a short heavy barrel and a scope for 50 yards.

If you are talking rifles then just get her a Ruger 10/22.

If you're looking for a pistol....Ruger or Buckmark. Rifle Ruger 10/22

Consider the following... everyone likes to customize their gear... add a little flare if you will. Nothing beats the 10/22 for this purpose. You can dress up a 10/22 with a nice pink stock or something like that or maybe go red... get a flashy barrel... and BAM!!! Custom 10/22 for your wife!

If you go pistol... Buckmarks are the easiest to customize as the barrels can be cash and carry no FFL required. Ruger barrels are serialized and need to go through dealer.. if you can that is, I don't think the Paclite's can be had in CA without some extensive legwork. However a Ruger MKIII is pretty sexy on its own.

Or maybe you can convince her she wants a new Sig 522

Ruger 10/22 if she wants a rifle, a Ruger Mkiii if she wants a pistol.
They can both be easily customized, and both of mine have never had feeding issues with cheap ammo.

For a dedicated 50 yard handgun, I say get a TC and a super 14 barrel.

                    +1 on both.

Marlin 60 - more accurate, no lost mags, 15 - 18 rounds (older models hold 18), bazillion made, tubes easier to load than mags, yada yada yada...

My first choice would be a TC R-25 for the quality machining and accuracy, my second choice would be a 10/22 for accuracy and the availability of accessories.
The Walther is a fun rifle with lots of cool points but the trigger sucks and would limit accuracy @ 50yds IMHO

Browning Buckmark with the TacSol barrel added. Accurate, light, fun.
