TacSol AR22 Upper Owners:

I'm pretty set on a TacSol upper, but can't decide between the LT and M4 versions. I would be using this for competitive steel shooting (along with casual target shooting), so I've been leaning towards the LT version for its reduced weight and ability to accept TacSol's compensators. However, at least the M4 version would allow me to shoot irons before I get a decent optic. Why did you owners choose a particular model? I could care less about looking tacticool (don't need a FH/light/laser on a .22). Any concerns over the barrel life or accuracy of one versus the other? All comments appreciated.

I went with the m4 only cause it's going to be a plinker/training tool.

Looks like both are threaded the same, but the LT has a smidge longer barrel.

If you are going to do some competive shooting go with the LT. The heavier barrel should be an advantage. I'm not a fan of the M4 cutout barrel.

The LT actually has the lighter barrel. It's aluminum with an inner steel liner. The M4 is a standard M4 cut barrel.

I think with the LT you could add a railed gas block and toss on a front-flip iron sight if you wanted to shoot irons.

Or, you could swap the handgaurd that is supplied with the LT for any aftermarket free-float railed handgaurd and toss on a front-flip iron sight. There are many light weight railed handgaurd options to choose from.

I think the threaded barrel accepts not only the TacSol compensator but any other comp intended for the AR.

As far a barrel life goes, TacSol is going to be around for a while if you ever need one. 22's don't beatup barrels that bad.

Get the LT for the reasons I mentioned above. The M4 profile will always have the front sight in the way if you decide to toss on an optic. Although, if you have to tools and buy a railed gas block you could do the work and take if off.


Buy it already! They may run out.

I bought my 8 year old the tactical solutions .22 lt.
It is an amazing upper! You won't be dissapointed, be sure if you order it you have the round hammer and not the notched one in your lower. Tactical solutions sells it, or you can get them with dpms lpk's.

I vote for the LT. I like the TS compensators, and the outer diameter is intended to match that of the LT barrel (as well as their Ruger 10/22 barrels). You could put one on the M4 profile barrel, but it'd look funny. I slapped an 11" rail on mine to get a long sight radius for irons, as well as a lower rail section to clip my bipod onto. I like mine... a lot!

Edit: Just weighed my setup as shown, it's 6.8lbs. If you were to swap the EOTech 512 (11oz) for an Aimpoint T-1 with LaRue mount (3oz) you'd save 0.5lbs. Swapping the Magpul ACS (0.9lbs) for a CTR (0.5lbs) would drop you another 0.4lbs, so I could potentially get this to 5.9lbs unloaded.
