    Tactical Solutions AR22 Upper help

    Hi,

I have a few questions on Tactical Solutions uppers and I hope you could help. It is the AR LT model shown here:

    1. I am interested in buying the Tactical Solutions AR LT Upper. Is the bolt catch on the upper a "true" bolt catch or do the Black Dog mags hold the bolt open on the last shot?

    2. Do you think CCI Standard Velocity will cycle the action of the Upper? I use CCI Standard in my S&W 41 and would like to stick with the same ammo.

    3. I will be using a Rock River Lar15 lower that is mark 5.56 cal. Will I need a bullet button or does having an 22cal upper render the firearm a 22cal?

I will probably go with the upper I just wanted to check. For the price of this thing I could probably buy a ColtAR22 or S&W AR22, but I already 4 Black Dog mags that I picked up. Plus, I caught some video of this thing on youtube and it is meeting my perceptions of quality.

    Thanks,

There is no bolt catch on the upper, only the lower, but it doesn't work.

The bolt catch is built into the magazine. On all of my BDM's I just milled the bolt catch off. I find it very annoying.

CCI standard will work just fine.

Make sure you have a rounded (DPMS style) hammer, and not a notched hammer. JP Lightweight springs (the yellow ones) also contribute to better reliability.

Caliber markings on the lower mean absolutely NOTHING. All that counts is what the finished rifle shoots. A .22lr upper makes it a .22lr, rimfire gun. You can go hog-wild on "evil features" and have a gun less than 30" (but no less than 26"), even with a 5.56mm marked lower.

You DO NOT need a bullet button at all. A normal magazine release is all you need.

In fact, my dedicated TacSol gun is on a 5.56-marked lower.

Yes, you COULD get a Umarex or S&W AR-22, but the TacSol absolutely blows them away in quality and performance.

      great....great, thanks for the reply.

i will probably just be using this at the handgun range up at Burro.

it's nice to hear about the CCI Standard working too.

now, i need to figure out how to remove the bullet button out of the lower, after removing the pistol grip and tele-stock first. the BB in the lower was the type with the extra little lip of material which was inserted into the mag release hole. that thing is in there like a mutha! i'd hate to ding-up the lower removing the BB.

i'm placing an order for the upper and rounded hammer soon. the trigger group is an RRA 2-stage setup.

will the DPMS hammer and JP spring setup work with the other trigger parts or do i need some additional items?

i am looking to order directly from Tactical Solutions. is that where you ordered your stuff?

      thanks again,

It's pretty easy. Just insert a punch through the opposite side of the receiver, get it on the edge/lip of the bullet button shroud, and tap out with a hammer.

The RRA 2-stage trigger will ONLY work with a RRA 2-stage hammer.

You'll have to swap out the trigger as well, which also means a new disconnector and disconnector spring.

The JP springs will work with a RRA 2-stage trigger though.

I got all my stuff from Riflegear.com

The hammer is like $30 at Tactical Solutions, but $18 at Riflegear. It helped that I work there, too

FYI, we've got TacSol LT uppers in stock!
