    Mounting a sling on a Marlin 60

For any Marlin 60 owners, How did you mount slings onto the rifles. I picked up some sling hardare to drill and mount into the stock but the forearm seems too thin to drill into. I think the screw for the forearm will either end up hitting the magazine tube or not be set into the forearm far enough to keep the mount from pulling out.

Any suggestions are great and pics would be helpful. Thanks.

I believe that if you remove the stock and countersink a nut on the other side, it will work for you.

I put one on mine. I just cut the screw off so it wouldn't hit the tube.

I've seen someone put one in the side of the forearm and it seemed to work for him, but I would follow Gary13's recommendation and countersink a captive nut in the tube channel. Add a dab of threadlocker and you'll never have to worry about it coming out.

I think all do a bit of both Gary and .22guys' suggestion, contersing a nut and cut the screw as well. Thanks, you reaffirmed my original plan.

NoOb here - Just wondering if you had success in mounting your sling. I also have a Marlin 60 and hope to attend the Piru Appleseed shoot next month. What kind of swivels / sling did you use? and did you counter sink the nut?

            Thanks!

When I was looking to put a sling on my 60 I just bought the ATI stock, it comes with swivel mounts. Decent deal on Ebay for around $40.

Since my stock is over 30yo, I did not want to add a sling on it, so I went the ATI route.

Plan on mounting it tonight. I plan on counter sinking the nut enough so it won't hit the magazine tube and then cutting the protruding bolt. I have thought about placing a bit of epoxy over the nut and down the stock as well to give it a bit more strength, but figure for now I'll hold off to see how it takes it.
