S&W 617s are beautiful. Some of them have 10rd cylinders.

But you could always go SA with a nice Ruger Single-Six or Bearcat!

Thanks for the reply but maybe I was not clear? I am looking for anything but an S&W, they are nice but I am not willing to pay their astronomical prices and I have read things about them that makes me shy away. I have been out of the loop and dont know who else is making good DA 22's these days. I suppose could end up going with a Ruger Single Six Convertable to fill the bill.

As far as double action .22 revolvers, I don't believe there are any on the roster other than S&W, which severely limits your options unless you're exempt. Your only bet becomes PPT or consignment guns, in which case I'd look for one of the Taurus 9 shot models. http://www.taurususa.com/revolvers.cfm I have not read much feedback on them, but I don't think they could screw up a .22 revolver. Although I own a few S&W .22 (lr and magnum) revolvers, you're right - they can be expensive.

You might try looking for a nice used Taurus 94 in 2" or 4". I have both and think they're great. I believe neither is on "The List" but I bought both of mine used and they look like they were never used. I'd say they're worth looking for.

IOH thanks for the offer, I am up around LA. I guess I am gonna have to look around in gun shops to find something, I dont even see the Single Six on the CA list. Now to find some gun shops LOL.

Single six is single action, exempt. Bearcat is the same.

Cool, I learn a lot here. The last time I bought a firearm there was no list and there were quite a few gun shops, hell I think that the last revolver that I bought Came from B&B North Hollywood!

S&W's are expensive, but in a gun more than anything else you get what you pay for. I don't know what negatives you have heard, but my 10 shot 617 is a superb piece and way fun to shoot.

If you can find one, My dad has a Dan Wesson 6 1/2'' SA/DA revolver that is fan-freakin-tastic to shoot. It may be tough to find one since I've never seen another except for his..... It's the same frame as the .357's they made in the 80's. Also +1 is you can find a Taurus too I believe it's the 990 that is the 9 shot, I've heard good things, plus if it does break they have the lifetime warranty and you can just send it back to them. Another good .22 revolver is a S&W 63 I believe, great gun. I'm not sure if that's on the roster though either. It certainly seems to be slim picken's for .22 revolvers on the list these days, hopefully the roster will go away soon :-)

Although I don't think it's on "The List" I bought mine used, but in absolutely excellent condition.
It's a lot of fun, although I don't particularly care for the HIVIZ sight. And last time I looked, .22mag ammo was available and fairly inexpensive.

I still see good condition S&W 34's and S&W 63'S on the used market, you'll need to look often and be quick with cash in hand when you find one.
