I grew up shooting one and I am gettin the itch to buy one of my own. Should I go new or get an older model. I'm leaning toward the Marlin 39. What you guys think? Pics would be nice.

I have a Henry H001 on my want list. It's about half the price of the Golden Boy model and the Marlin 39, and works just as good for a lever .22.

39A, I held out until I could find a used mountie, but probably paid a bit more for it.

I've had a Marlin 39A for about 25 years and just love it; solid, accurate, and fun. I bought my son a Henry Golden Boy as his first rifle. It's lighter than the 39A, the action is smoother, and it has more of an old west look. And, while it still sports a buckhorn sight on the barrel as opposed to the Williams receiver on the Marlin, the Henry is still minute of tin can accurate. Either one is a keeper.

Buddy of mine has a Mountie, made in the early 60's. Beautiful gun, would love to have one. Having said that, I got a Henry Golden Boy, which I love too. Buttery smooth action!!!

The henry will have the smoothest action of the ones available probably, if you do not mind plastic sights and barrel clamps it will be hard to beat $wise. Do your self a favor and do not overlook the Win 9422 in addition to Browning and Marlins offerings, these are all fine sugestions and will bring lasting satisfaction without compromise in my oppinion.

My vote goes to the Browning BL-22---I don't know if they still make these new anymore, but light, narrow, short lever throw and handy---the Marlin 39 series would be my 2nd choice.

Henry, dont remember what model#. Cool little carbine, like Chuck Conners. Accurate also, has rails on top, but i prefer iron sights on this myself.

I would get an older one. There is really no sense in buying a brand new .22 if you are just plinking..as the realllly old guy at the pawn shop once told me "shoot son, you'd have to shoot a million rounds through that thing before it had any problems." and i would have to agree with him......although, there is nothing better than "the new gun smell!"
