Noob question. Need help choosing a ruger 10/22

I am a new member, just recently got into the firearm world. Anyway, I am interest in the Ruger 10/22 rifle, I had heard all kinds of great reviews about it. And I saw that Turners have it on sale for $209, msrp$229 under their fall catalog. Here is the link to their ad, http://www.turners.com/engage/displa...page3.gif&id=3
I also saw that Big 5 have it on sale for $259, msrp$289. What I want to know is what's the difference between the two other than price. Another question is I saw the one at Turners is available with wood or synthetic stock, which one should I choose. Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thank you.

the turners one is a compact wood stock or synthetic. the big 5 one is standard length wood stock.http://big5sportinggoods.shoplocal.c...ailerid=-98565 I would get the standard length wood stock unless you plan a lot of mods and just want the action. Either way you will be very happy with a 10/22.
I myself have a 10/22T model witch has the factory laminated stock and bull barrel it shoots sub moa with most ammo,I love it. I also have the 10/22 synthetic stock great beater rifle and also pretty accurate. Hope this helps.

I dunno, I've never been much for guns. I mean, sure, we have the usual gun by the door, another near the TV, one in the kitchen, and another in the bedroom...and several others laying around. For the most part though, we keep our home free of guns. We are peace loving folks.

youre better off getting the cheapest possible.

Youre going to change out everything anyways if you want any kind of accuracy, so why not go cheap?

get on rimfirecentral.com you will see what i mean

I agree within 2 weeks of having mine it was sporting a bull barrel and a new stock. Which is pretty much what you are paying more for from the cheapest 10/22 to the most expensive ruger 10/22....

I have the basic 10/22 with wood stock, produced in 1972 and other than the addition of a scope and a sling, it remains stock and admired.

Get the cheapest one you can get. I bought mine used for maybe $99 and never used it till I got the Tommygun kit for it. Threw the wood stock in the attic never to be seen again,

Yah yah but tell him about the other three that you have in all states of modification.

I have 4 and the only one that is still stock is the one my dad gave me when I was 8 years old... it is a 1965 model and I don't shoot it much, just because it is old an nice and I have all the others that shoot better.. with all the mods. that have been done....

DON'T forget about used ones if you run across one.
If it's old enough (older than 1yr or so) you will get a metal trigger pack vs the plastic ones that are available now.

You can also sell off the stock and barrel as you replace tHe parts.

I recommend buying and older 10-22. The newer ones have a not to durable powdered finish on the receiver and the new triggergaurds are plastic instead of metal. Ruger has really cheapened what is probably their best selling model.

Id just buy a receiver from Nodak for $110. Trigger assembly from swampy for $135, and then a bolt for $50, then a barrel and stock of your choice. This is of course if you plan on replacing everything. Otherwise get the cheapest one you can, and build it slowly.
