Rimfire noob needs help on getting a gift.

First up. I have never had a rimfire so I am totaly new to rimfires. Any positive comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to buy a gift for my 10 year old daughter. One thing that I could think is a pair or rimfires for her birthday. I know she would outgrew .22lr rimfires but this is where I want her to start. I think she would appreciate it more than starting with a much stronger caliber. I myself is an AR/AK kind of guy and she got startled with it when she heard it go when she went with us a couple of months ago because it was loud. She's starting to get interested with firearms so I want to start her to know a little bit more now.

I would like to ask which manufacturer has a close identical bolt action and semi-auto .22lr rimfires? I was thinking of getting both Mossberg item numbers 37000 and 37047, or item numbers 37044 and 37045 (802 and 702 models). But the problem is that they have different front sights with each other. I am looking for synthetic stocks and blue barrel. Are there any Marlin models in this category?

I am 46 and still have not outgrown rimfires... That said, get her an AR lower, build it how she would like, and slap a good rimfire upper on it. When she is ready, she can get a 9mm upper, or 5.56, or whatever. As an added benefit, you being an AR guy, you give a gift that you can have fun with as well. WIN-WIN in my book.

Marlin 60 or 795, Ruger 10/22, and a Remington 597 are all good choices. Tech-sight are also a good option for some of these rifles if you want her to learn on iron sights.

well, i'm 34 and i've had my 10/22 since i was 18. it goes out on every range/shooting trip. i've got who knows how many bricks thru it without much issues. the rifle is still very accurate.

with that said, you might spoil your daughter with a 10/22. maybe a bolt 22lr might be the best. it will teach her the basics of shooting.

I grew up using an old Winchester single shot bolt action .22lr. Still one of my favorite rifles to this day.

As much as I love my centerfires, .22lr are more fun to shoot. I also have a 10/22, a Marlin .22. and Ruger MKIII.

The Sturm Ruger 10/22, which I bought back in 1983-84 was handed down to my wife. She can't wait to shoot it. Ruger or Marlin are good choices.

Get her a 795. It's cheap, reliable, easy to clean, and she'll learn how to take care of her own gun.

Or, make a .22 AR, like someone else said.

But really, that's more money, when you could buy a few thousand rounds of ammo for the difference haha.

get a marlin 795 from big 5. I got mine for $168 or something OTD with rebate. It's got a synthetic stock so it's nice and light. Gun works great and is a fun plinker but it is more difficult to load the magazine.
