Just Picked Up A Marlin 39 TDS

I got it for $100 dollars and its in great 80-90% condition. I thought it would make a good little beater for the Jeep until I checked online It appears to be worth close to $750.00
Now I don't know what to due, keep it sell it and buy the beater I wanted and tons of ammo. Anyways any info anyone has on this model would be great,It is definitely a neat little gun. It is a later model with the checkering and cross bolt safety.

That's a steal! I got one too, and thought I did well to pay $450 for mine last year. It's definately light and handy. What makes it a TDS is that when you take it apart, the two pieces are the same length, for easy transportation. I've heard there is was special case to transport them in, but I don't have one. I always leave mine assembled, however.

Yeah I have read about the case. It is supposed to float. Also hear it is rarer than the rifle to find. The guy wanted $80 for it when I saw how clean it was I gave him a hundred because I thought that was a fair price. I had no idea it was worth as much as a regular high power rifle.

Well, I'd 've given you $450 if you had included a magic floating case for it.

BTW, I treat mine as a range toy. Thought about taking it hunting but there's no easy way to put a sling on it. Honestly don't know why Marlin doesn't make more of them as well as the 20" barrel Mounties, since they are IMHO more useful than the 24" barrel versions they make now. Maybe the fact that all the ones they currently make already sell out?

Scoring any Marlin 39, case or no, for $100 is a major steal.

I've had my 39A for close to thirty years, and I've used the heck out of it. Rode around in trucks and fired plenty through it. Just had it out at the range again a couple of weeks ago. It's got some bumps and scars on the wood but the blue is still 95%+.

If you take care of it, that rifle will last several lifetimes and still be a great shooter when we're all dead and buried. Yes they do have value to collectors, but don't let that keep you from using a great little rifle that you got for a fraction of it's potential worth.

Once I realized I have handguns and rifles worth over 1k apiece that I shoot all the time it makes me not worry about shooting the new marlin. Will take some pics when my girl gets back from SD,She took both cameras.

Great buy! I paid 275 I think for one in '89 or so. Hang on to it. It will only increase in value. And whatever you do, DON'T USE IT AS A BEATER IN THE JEEP!

Took it out today and busted 3 tree squirrels after sighting in the new scope.I love this gun,needs a major action job though.
