    Newbie Help!

Hi all - newbie here and first post.

    - ok i just purchased a Umarex M4 .22 and should be getting it next week. I have a bunch of questions as I'm already looking to get some goodies with it. Any help would be a greatly appreciate it and I look forward to many years with my m4 (wannabe) along with this great community. Anyhow, here are my questions for NOW :

    1. I live in California and to my understanding, I cannot have a magazine with a higher capacity than 10 rounds - but i love the look of a higher capacity magazine. Where can i get a magazine that looks like high capacity but only holds 10 rounds?

    2. I'm looking to get a scope for prolly under $100 - something with magnification, don't need the red dot or laser - any recommendations? I'm looking at a Nikko mountmaster 3-9x40 AO because it's cheap - but i would like something that looks tactical. I've also seen some pictures with M4s with two scopes mounted - what is that for?

that's it for now - i'm sure i'll post much more in the future as i learn more about this capabilities. thanks a bunch in advance for giving me any advice!

relevant history - i've shot my friend's umarex M4 before and i own a HK pistol .40 so i'm not totally clueless about firearms - just rifles.

i'm excited about getting my rifle and joining this community!
    andrew.

I believe the Umarex mags are proprietary, that is only Umarex m4 magazines fit the rifle...so BDM (blackdog magazines) are out of the question.

The two scopes that you are talking about are either an Aimpoint(red dot) or EoTech (holosight) with a magnification scope mounted in front.

For something tactical and under $100 I would start out at www.rrages.com and look at his inventory. Most of his gear is for a GSG but the scopes will work for your umarex. Then there's always ebay...

    Congrats on your new toy....!!!

      thanks guys!

so no one has found a hicap look-a-like that holds 10 rds? no solutions eh?

In regards to the double scope, i think i found out that one of the is night vision while the other is the magnification/or red dot. thanks again.

Btango05 is right. Umarex's Colt M4 mags are the only ones that work with the gun, at least right now. Until another company makes something compatible, we're all stuck with the Umarex 10rd mag.

Also, because this is a .22, I've found that I can get away with buying accessories made for BB or Airsoft guns. Since the recoil is barely anything, there's not much force to knock a sight or laser out of wack. I purchased a knock-off EOTech sight for $65 that is amazingly accurate (you can search EOTech replica on Ebay), and I also got a green laser with pressure switch for $80. Also, extremely accurate and visible in full daylight. Do I really need these things? No, but they're tacticool, and add a couple of new ways to shoot at the range. Know you said you don't need red dot or laser, but it's just an example that you could probably find a scope made for an airsoft that's pretty cheap.

Here's how my M4 is set up so far:

Next purchase is a flip up rear back up sight. So much fun to customize this gun.

Pretty sweet mods touchdown! yea i really love the hicap look and i can actually borrow one from my friend in law enforcement for pictures - but i can't own one. someone make one legally and sell it to me!

i was thinking of getting a mag scope tho for some sniper fun at the range. not to mention a fake can for tacticool (nice word)!

BTW, what front grip do you have? looks niiiice...

Theres plenty of options for a scope that are well under $100 i have a bushnell 3x9 rimfire scope on the way. (midway has it on sale right now for $34.99). I had itchy fingers and bought a BSA 3x9 scope that was on sale at Big5 last week. Its a centerfire scope but works well and looks cool.

You can check here for a ton of other options.
http://www.opticsplanet.com/s/rimfire/cat~rs these are all Rimfire scopes that would suit real well.

Get yourself a good case with enough room for a scope.
i have the cheaper 35" version which i cant seem to find on their site for some reason. ( they have one im sure, i ordered from them )

Your going to need rifle cleaning stuffs. These are a few options for cleaning the barrel. ( i have the patchworm and its good for a quick cleaning at the range, but nothing works as good as a brass brush and some solvent
Product Categories: Pocket Field Kit | Tactical Field Kit | Small Caliber Kits Including .177 | Felt Buttons & Cotton Patches | Cleaning Compounds & Solvents | Replacement Parts & Accessories | Sight Paint Kit

Theres an Otis micro cleaning kit which includes a bass brush but im not sure if it can fit through the chamber to get into the barrel.

I use a bore snake. I was skeptical at first but it does the job, after 400 rounds i ran it through with solvent near the bristles three times and then ran a patch through which came out clean. Wash it after every cleaning though in a jar with some soap (not in the washing machine), if its pulling out 400 rounds worth in a couple runs its surely dirty.

Ammo, your going to need like a gajillion rounds. anything but Remington. and you should be fine with a few FTF's from every mfr. Ive tried several brands and CCI's are the most reliable in mine. Might be different for yours.
dont pay too much for ammo. If your in San Diego and cant find any shoot me a PM ill toss you a couple hundred rounds of Federal so you can actually shoot it

oh yeah make sure you give it a good cleaning before you go out. Mine was dirty out of the box, left over metal shavings all over the internals.

Haven't bought any ammo online, but I've been wondering about the legality of that. Seen some pretty good prices online, just not sure if I'm allowed to buy.

BTW, the grip I have on mine is the UTG Deluxe Foregrip I bought from Amazon.com for $9.99

Touchdown: If you don't mind, do you have a brand name or a link to the laser you bought? I've been looking for one to go on my 10/22 for close-range backyard rabbit regulation. Every one I've seen or read a review on doesn't seem to work well in daylight or have any kind of E/W adjustment.

                    Thanks!

It's a NcStar Green Laser. Its very bright, so visibility in daylight is possible. However the downside is that at night, in a dark room, it can sometimes be too bright. You can even see the beam usually, without any smoke. The adjustments are very precise, so minute changes are needed. Check out this link. I bought mine on sale so this one is like $20 more.

Solid? Hell yeah it is. With all the accessories on my gun, I can still pick up the whole thing by just the foregrip. I'd even swing it around with complete confidence that it wouldn't come off. Plus it holds extra batteries inside, and you can remove the side plates on it to fit a pressure switch.

OK, OK, let's get one thing straight here, the gun is a Colt/Walther M4 .22 IMPORTED BY Umarex. Anyway, aside from that, congratulations on buying your Colt/Walther M4 .22. I love mine. Make sure you break it in with quality ammo. CCI Mini Mags worked great for me. I shot about 500 rounds of the CCI before trying other brands. Mine will now shoot just about anything except Remington ammo; I don't know why, but Remington gives my gun fits. After about 1500 rounds, my M4 .22 is about the most fun .22 I have ever had.
