Sig .22 Conversion Kits

Has anyone tried one of these yet? I have a 229 and was thinking of one for training and plinking. Already have a Ruger MKII but looking at something to practice shooting double action. After hearing mixed reviews about the Mosquito, I was hoping this might be a good alternative. I see the conversions for under $300.

I was wondering too but after shooting my friend's mosquito... I started to have doubts. The mosquito shot horrible, it jams or it won't cycle.

I have a 226 and I want a .22lr conversion kit or an p226 classic 22. I haven't been to the range since ammo prices went up.

I think those aren't CA approved. I've heard good and bad things about the SIG 22lr conversions, mostly that they work great with mini-mags. Downside is that the slide doesn't lock back after the last round.

From what I've read here and on the Sigforum, they're just ok. They're picky with ammo and the first ones had reliability issues, also the slides don't stay open after the last shot, which was the main deal breaker for me.

These conversions don't require a FFL, it'll ship directly to you. Now this is not from personal experience but I have read a few bad things about Botach. Just a heads up.

Avoid Botach they have a horrible reputation.

Conversion units seem to be ammo sensitive. I was just about to throw in the towel on my Marvel 1911 unit until I tried running CCI Mini-Mags in it. The Marvel unit runs like a dream with Mini-Mags!

I have one for my Sig and definitely no problems with MiniMags. I totally agree that they're kind of finicky on ammo. It prefers some Federal .22s but not all. Does not like Remingtons. Some Aguilas will fire out of it. Don't know about the Winchesters. YMMV.

I bought some items (guide rod, springs) from the SigForum from one of the members, JeffSig. His website has a follower replacement that will lock back the slide. His workmanship is top notch. He's currently out of stock on the follower but here's a link:

My friend is picking up his first sig, and even he's looking at getting the conversion for himself.

As for the followers, I've been interested in it, but I'm wonder if it's either going to chew up the slide, or the slide chews up the follower.

Not sure if TGS currently has it in stock, but you can sign up for e-mail notification when it is back in stock. TGS received excellent reviews from members of Sig Forum. I bought a conversion kit for my P220R from TGS and got great service. Highly recommended.

My Sig P229R conversion kit came in from TGS yesterday. I took it to range last night and ran 300 rounds through it.

50 rounds of CCI Mini Mag HP were used for the break-in and I had roughly 30% FTE,FTL and also light strike. I switched to 50 rounds of CCI Blazer (HV) and it got a lot better.

For the later 200 rounds, I only had very occasional FTEs (<5%).

CCI Mini Mag HP (50 rounds): No problem and very consistent.
Federal Champion (50 rounds): No problem.
Remington Golden Bullet (100 rounds): Very few FTE and recoil seems to be different from shot to shot. (Is that common?)

Thank you all for the useful tips. I also ordered stainless steel guide rod, springs, and followers from JeffSig. The most annoying part is the lack of "slide lock back". I ran into occasional dry-file of the gun when I emptied the last round in the mag.

One last questions, is there any available speed loader for .22LR conversion kits? All I can find are ones customized for Ruger etc only.
