    Hi-Cap quick question

I've had a SS 10/22 my dad bought for me as a kid back when I was still a youngster in the 90's. Never used it until now after I fixed a smashed stock (moving incident). Along with it are 12 high cap magazines. Now I'd like to be positively sure that I can utilize said magazines *legally* since I have had them in my possession way before 2000 despite being a teen at the time. thanks guys

ps: marlin 795/7000 kicks 10/22 fanny

You're completely legal to use your large capacity magazines. I've highlight the key fact that makes them legal for you to use. Note that you can also repair them with new parts and can change their capacity as well. You just can't end up with more magazines than you started with.

As long as you owned them in CA prior to Jan 1, 2000 then you can legally have/use them now.

EDIT: Gene beat me to it, I was doing something else and forget to hit post, otherwise I would have been first.

You can't sell or loan them to anyone either.

I know this question is gonna get beat to hell but:

How does someone prove that they owned the mags prior to 1/1/2000? Is there a date stamped on the mag?

There is no reason to prove you have owned the mags since before 1/1/2000. Possession of large capacity magazines is not prohibited in California. You can't be charged with possession of large capacity magazines.

Werd. You cannot buy, sell, transfer, build, etc. Possessing is ok. But you cannot have done any of the before-mentioned except for before 2000.

I had a 10/22 a long time ago too as a training rifle with a few high caps. Now if only I could rebuild them with TI25 parts. That would be awesome.
I have some OLD eagle plastic lipped magazines that are beat to hell. One is pretty much split in half and works half the time. Now it just sits there.

You CAN loan the mags IF you stay in close proximatey to them. In other words, if you are shooting and you want to let someone else shoot your gun, it's OK as long as you are next to them. Just don't let them out of your sight.

Thats kind of the point of loaning. ie: Giving them to a buddy who is going to his cabin in the mountains while you stay home is a "no no" by law. It's a silly law that is un-enforcable unless he throws you under the bus. Then I guess he would not be your buddy afterall.

Yes, but at least someone else can use them when you are with them. That is still considered "loaning" them so, I just wanted to clarify that it can be legal to loan +10 round mags.
