I need ammo info on 22

Hey I'm new to shooting, I just bought my first 22. I went to walmart today and saw like 3 or 4 types of 22 ammo. Which can my marlin 795 shoot? I saw cci minimag, cci 22lr shot shell, and some other short something, I dunno. Whats with all these types of ammo and how do I know which my rifle can shoot?

So, your Marlin 795 is 22LR or 22 Long Rifle only. CCI Minimags would be a good brand to try out but is more expensive than the bulk ammo available. Typically, you'll have to experiment with different brands of ammo to find which ones your rifle likes. Something about 22LR, some weapons like a particular brand better than others. Once you find which brand it likes, stock up. Don't bother with 22LR shot shell, those typically get used in revolvers and such for snake control when hiking etc. Also don't try shooting 22 Long or 22 Short since the Marlin is not designed for those rounds.

The box should say "22LR" or "22 Long Rifle".

        You want to avoid...

        22 Short
        22 Long
        22 Magnum
        22 WMR

I know, only MiniMags I ever see are either overpriced or already in my room

apparently 6.47 for 100 rounds from another thread that someone posted from another walmart. I assume they were the same price.

Since you are new to shooting and this is a new rifle please take the time to read your owners manual. If a manual was not included with your purchase, I am sure you will be able to down load it online. In the manual it should tell you how to safely use your firearm and should tell you what type of ammunition you can safely use in the firearm. Oh yeah, congratulations on your first .22 it's a good place to start.

Cool. You have a few days left you might be able to download that manual. So when you pick it up you can get the right ammunition. .22LR is hard to come by in my neck of the beach. So when I see it ( which is hardly ever) I tend to buy a few boxes. I like to shoot at least 500 rds during a range trip. It justifies the cleaning effort. Have fun be safe!

CCI mini's are probably the best 'bulk' ammo you can shoot. Stock up on it.

I've shot those and the winchester 555 packs out of my 795, both shot well, and only had a few duds out of the 555 pack, and not because of the gun.

Buy another mag or 6, they can be had at a Big5 for 17.99. Definitely worth having a couple, and look into attending an Appleseed shoot!

Mini mags will probably be the only thing you will find in stock these days.
