None of my friends shoots anything (except their mouths) so I don't have too many people around me I can learn from.
I was bench shooting with my left arm under the rifle and my left hand resting on my right shoulder. My right hand, of course, was manning the trigger.
While shifting positions, I accidentally put the butt of my rifle in the webbing of my left hand, between the forefinger and the thumb. This position seemed to skyrocket my accuracy. It gave me a much higher degree of vertical control and stability. It did the same to the left-right but to a lesser degree.
Is this the way you're supposed to bench shoot? If not, is there anything wrong with it? I figure the majority of the kick should be going back towards my shoulders and none of force should be hitting my hand at all (unless something terribly goes wrong).
This was a 22 LR but regardless, it should be safe, even with a centerfire, right? I'd appreciate any opinions, no matter how asinine they are.
