    A surprising accuracy test

I acquired a pistol rest recently and decided to use it check accuracy of about 10 semiauto .22 pistols, using CCI Mini-Mags in all. Not surprisingly S&W Model 41 produced the tightest groups, just one ragged hole at 10 yards, but No. 2 was a big surprise: A Colt Cadet with fixed sights, not only producing a very tight group but bunched in the 10 ring. It grouped better than some pretty accurate pistols, such as Browning Buck Mark, S&W 22a, S&W 422 and a couple of High Standards. The Cadet, which Colt marketed briefly in the early 90s, is a clone of High Standard Duramatic with a heavy barrel and very similar to Beretta Neo. In fact it can use Neo mags.

Wouldn?t 25 yards be a better distance to determine accuracy? It?s hard not to be accurate at ten yards.

I?m 80 years old and lining up iron sights at that range would be very difficult at best

I had trouble at 50 years old.

Much better with a green dot on most of my pistols. I keep my 1911?s at 15 yards.

Neat. I am trying to pick up a Smith 41. About 6 or 7 years ago I sold my S&W 22a. It was the single worst gun related decision I have ever made. Off a rest at 25 yards I could hit a 12 gauge shot shell every time. Now they are off list and harder to find/cost more. I also let go a Neo around the same time which I highly regret.

I think it?s all relevant 10,15 or 25. Will all show the accuracy of a given handgun from a rest. Yes the groups will and should be tighter from 10 then 25, but it still shows the difference in each guns accuracy. Now if all the guns are putting all rounds through the same hole at 10 you got a problem. But no gun and no ammo will ever do that, so 10 yards is still gonna give you accuracy results.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.

S&W 22a is a great gun. Not too long ago I sold a 22s, the stainless version, and kept the 22a, as I thinned the herd in my gun safe. I found my Model 41 on Gunbroker for $900. It's A 70s vintage and has a couple of rust spots but very accurate. There are a couple for sale now on Calguns but as I recall for $1200-plus.

Use an optical sight instead of iron sights.

Optical sights are against my religion. My object is not to hit the bullseye but to shoot as well as I am capable of doing without artificial aids. That means iron sights.
