Ruger Mark IV Target CA model

Thinking of getting the Mark IV target model. Heard people were having issues from the factory brand new in regards to the sights being canted. Has this issue been addressed or fixed?

Which MkIV target, the standard or the 22/45? Both are "Target" models.

The only major sight related issue I had from mine was the front slight rattled off after 100 rounds. Basically the screw started unthreading and the only way I noticed was the sight was turned 90 degrees. Tightened it down with Loc-Tite and all was well. Is the barrel canted? a miniscule bit. The very top of the sight is not perfectly flat, there's a slight tilt on it. But I'll live with it, because........

I ended up putting a tube dot on it (SIG Romeo5) and so the front sight is no longer used.

Other thing I didn't like was all the sharp edges. Got two cuts when I got home: one from the cocking serrations and one from the pulldown knob on the magazine. Rounded everything off using some 800 grit sandpaper and all is well again.

Accuracy is fine, trigger is mushy out of the box with long pre-travel, over-travel, and a bit of a creep before the break. With a Volquartsen kit it's amazing, but that's another appx. $150 more.

Great gun for the price paid.

My son installed the Apex trigger kit in our MK4, a huge improvement. NO canted barrel on this one, and everything so far has worked.

Edit to add from a previous thread on these pistols:

The pistol has been accurate, but is limited by the crappy trigger. It has proven reliable.

Good news is that a very good trigger is available from Apex:

I?m about to install this on mine. The video should be watched, as it takes a little experience working with small tools.

EDIT: Apex is offering 15% off through 14 December with code APEXMAS23. Shipping was free as well, NO Kalifornia sales tax either.
      UPDATE:
After installing the Apex trigger, I am very pleased with the outcome. I have run about 500 rounds of various .22LR loads through it over three range trips, and it works as advertised. Notice that there is an over-travel adjustment screw. Pull weight is under three pounds, and for me that is plenty light enough for a .22LR hunting pistol carrier on a OWB holster. You can order the kit with either a black colored unit (as shown) or red as well. Lastly, the magazine disconnect is replaced with a machined washer, and makes re-assembly easier. No more Kalifornia interference in that regard. If you purchase one of these, watch the video first. Actually doing the job is not difficult, but you must have a bit of dexterity. I let my son do this, as his young eyes are better than mine.

I ordered one the day after they became on the roster. No issues with mine but did send the lower off to Volq for their trigger job.

I have 4 Mark IV's and never paid attention to the stock sights as I immediately took them off and replaced them with Williams Fire Sights. I think they are the best and they only cost about $58 on Amazon right now.

The Volquartsen Accurrizing kits are amazing. They are fairly easy to install too.

I just got the 22/45. I've been looking at buying thr charge ring and ruger rail instead of the tandemkross rail.

I've been eyeing the full volquartsen accurizing kit.

The standard model#40183 not the 22/45. My 30 day wait is over in 2 weeks. Going to be my first Ruger Mark Series pistol. Super excited! Wanted one for years!

They are an excellent choice for a .22 semi-automatic pistol that is still affordable. We have examples from all three generations, and have made great use of them as tools to introduce new shooters to proper gun handling and marksmanship. A perfect pistol for taking out ground squirrels.
The cleaning procedure for the new models is a huge improvement as well.
Get a good supply of magazines, and a loading tool. And lots of ammunition. You will go through a lot.

My brain keeps telling me to patient and wait for the stainless steel version of the Ruger Mark IV Target to be added to the roster. I feel like there is a good chance since the 22/45 model just got added. Either the hunter model or the stainless steel version target mark IV.

Yes, I had a local 'smith install this kit in my Mark III 22/45. After this was done I installed fiber-optic sights from Ruger. Easily the most accurate .22 handgun I own.

                        I have one.

My only complaints are the trigger pull......gonna get that fixed.

The sharp edges on the back of the bolt.....I think that I will lightly stone the
                        edges.

Other than that it is a fantastic handgun.

I forgot. I don't like ambi safetys. But, I can live with it.

Go look in the box your MkIV came in. Ruger includes a small washer that allows you to replace the left hand safety switch for non ambi (left side only safety). I don’t know if this is recent models only but doesn’t hurt to check!

Brownells makes a bolt charger that is easier on the hands. Had a ring charger and didnt like it. Says its for Mark 3/22-45 but works prefect for the mark 4's.
