    Savage rascal for scout youth?

Thoughts on this rifle for teaching youth? Looking for a bolt action single shot 22 that wont break the bank to buy 8 of them, and can buy new so the rifles arent cobbled together and in various states of disrepair. On paper the rascal looks right. Never handled one though

IMO the rascal is a good little teaching rifle - accurate and easy to use. I bought one to teach my daughter firearm safety, handling, and the mechanics of shooting from about age 9 until she moved up to a 10/22 at about age 12.
    Good luck!

^^^I agree. I bought one a couple of years ago to teach my grand daughter the same (safety, handling, sight alignment, trigger control, etc.). These are very well made rifles, nothing cheap or chincy about them at all. With a plastic stock, they are also very rugged and won't get dinged up like a wood stock rifle might. Very accurate as well.

      Highly recommend them.

My wife has this rifle, it?s an excellent gun. and what I found was that it?s quite accurate for an entry level learning gun. When my daughter gets older she will learn on this rifle as well.

The Rascal is my choice. The trigger and the peep sights make it a no brainer for a small rifle for learning to shoot.

Depends on the age of your students. The Rascal is great for all the reasons mentioned above. But if you are thinking Boy Scouts (age 11+) the Rascal is going to be pretty small for some of them. I think most of the scout camps use something with more of a normal size stock/length of pull. My son outgrew the Rascal by the time he was 11.

Cub Scouts or Brownies maybe. Way too small for Boy Scouts. For younger Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, something like the Savage B22 F Compact is better, but more expensive. For older Boy Scouts, you need an adult sized rifle.

The Rascal is the best inexpensive youth 22 IMHO. Much better than the Cricket.

The CZ 457 Scout is by far the best youth rimfire rifle. Very high quality and comes with a single shot adapter.

can use standard 457 5 and 10 round mags and you can swap stocks when the kid grows.

costs more, but very much worth it.

The Ruger American Rimfire Compact would be my second choice.
