22 semiauto pistol advice

I'm looking to pick up a 22 semi auto pistol so maybe I can actually find ammo and shoot. Buddy has a sig mosquito and thinks it is great.

Mainly looking for something to practice with. Doesn't need to be nail driver it needs to go bang reliably when I squeeze the trigger and be reasonably accurate.

I've seen walther and ruger mentioned a lot when the mosquito comes up. Anybody with hands on experience?

I have a Sig Mosquito and it runs fine with high velocity ammunition, but it's difficult to shoot accurately. For shooting paper I prefer to shoot my Ruger mkii. The nice thing about a Ruger 22 is you can shoot it stock, or replace a few parts (hammer, sear, etc) down the road if you choose to. Either way, 22 pistols are a lot of fun to shoot and much less expensive to operate!

I did alot of reading on current .22lr semi-automatic handguns and settled on the Model-41. It was about 4x my original budget.

It FTE'd on the 4th shot using Wolf MT. Changed to CCI SV and the gun has run flawlessly since. Its crazy accurate, easy to clean and feels very well built.

No regrets here. You won't lose money on a 41. If you don't like it you can sell it easily and they generally hold value or go up. There is around 20% premium for new 41s vs. the used market. Some of the older models have a fit and finish not found on any new pistols today. Evidently this is the last pistol that S&W hand assembles and tests.

I've handled a Mark III and it was a beautiful pistol. I didn't care for the trigger but you can always upgrade that.

I have a couple of High Standards. You can usually find them in CA for anywhere from $400.00 to $900.00 depending on model and condition. So long as you get one of the older manufacture (50's to 70's) model in their Supermatic Tournament, Citation, Victor style you'll do fine.

I think one of the reasons for value fluctuation is that these guns have always been viewed as 2nd tier compared to a Colt or the Smith 41 when all were in production. The Smith & Colt were certainly better finished, I doubt whether there was any real accuracy difference between the three. I happen to very much like the HS grip and trigger.

Hey the Neos has a crazy look but mine has been very reliable and they are extremely easy to take apart and clean. Just remove the barrel and clean it. Compare that to the Ruger which people always complain about or Buckmark where you have to remove the rear sight base.

I just wish the Neos had a better trigger. Neos vs. Ruger with Volquartsen sear is a no contest. I'd like to get a BuckMark and try the Heggis (sp?) spring flip.

definately look into the ruger mkIII, I have had it for a couple years and still really enjoy it. The gun is reliable, durable, fun and importantly cheap to shoot!

When I was looking I had my fathers Ruger and my brothers buckmark to base my choice on. I finally chose the Beretta Neos. The reason? It fit my hand so much nicer then the ruger (and is much easier to clean). All Rugers have the blocky, square style grip that fits longer fingers and while my fingers are kinda thick they are not long so I always felt I had a psudo grip on it. The buckmark is a nice firearm but for the same level as the Neos it cost $200 more. Bottom line I have now many thousands of rounds through my neos with almost no malfunctions of any kind (99% are due to ammo not the gun). Just get the 6' barrel and you should be happy.

go to gunbroker and find a used Browning BuckMark from some Pawnshop for about $225.00 these pistols can't be worn out so used is just fine, then go to Tactical Solutions and buy the 5" barrel, if lucky get a blem for 1/2 price.
Then go to RFC get the scoop on trigger work. This will give you a near match grade shooter for less than $400.00 perfect for the range or hunting in the bush. It will eat *any* .22LR ammo. It will be as reliable and accurate or moreso than any other .22 LR pistol available except the $1,000.00 models.

How can you get a blem? Do you have to call them?

I have a Buckmark and my dad has a MK II. Both are great pistols, I prefer my Buckmark.
